Against the grain I was just reading through Messmer's post titled "Fake Breasts!" and it started me thinking about other assumptions the porn world has made about what their consumers enjoy. What would you like to see more of in porn that is not a current popular trend? What do you see too much of in porn? My personal thoughts on the subject... Not enough: - Models with short hair. - Natural breasts, though we're seeing more of this (nod to Messmer) - Some attempt to build the sexual tension. It doesn't have to be Gone with the Wind but a little build up wouldn't hurt. - Realistic sexual enjoyment from the female in sex scenes. (Little Mutt and HerSweetHand does a good job with this.) - Dirty talk (or any talk from some of those Euro girls.) Too much: - Facials/cum shots. - Silly, over the top stripper/porn star clothes & make-up. - Plastic surgery. Some of the older, MILF models don't even look human. - Robotic sex chanting that's obviously fake. | |

Short hair is a good start, but they should just be more adventurous with the hair styling in general. So it is unlikely you'll convince too many girls to have their hair significantly shortened, let alone shave their head - which can be pretty awesome looking (check out Katja Love) - so why not play with older styles that are less commonly used? I'd love to see a website dedicated to Steam Punk style with matching plotting. Victorian era apparel and bizarre mechanical creations - how can you go wrong?! I'm quite certain a large number of the Burning Man frequenters would be happy to rent their mechanical creations to be featured in a porno. I must say I've never been a huge fan of "dirty talk" with the exception of scenes with a strong S&M element - and scenes with the Euro models doing it can really backfire unless you let the girls talk in their native tongue. I think my qualms about dirty talk or sex talk or whatever is that so many performers do it badly. To be done right it requires the talker to have a certain level of intelligence that sadly isn't always there. I often find the long surviving male performers can do it just fine, but many of the females just say the same inane phrase again and again or simply ask stupid rhetorical that make you wish her mouth was full. I'm with you, Goldfish, on your list of "Too Much"es. I'm also with you on "Dirty Talk" provided, as you and Toadsith suggest, that it is authentic. I would add to the "Dirty Talk" element the idea of "getting inside the girl's head (i.e., What has led her to into porn?; Why does she let herself be degraded? What "issues" does she have?). Facialabuse.com has the right idea in this respect, but they tend to be so passionless and stereotypical in their approach, and so many of their female performers are so skanky, that they don't fully exploit it. On the other end of the porn spectrum, I also think that there is a lack of solo girl explicit posing/dancing/masturbating by "amateurs" that are only performing in a few videos. G.D. Douglass is the real master in this genre, and I'm surprised that his work has not spawned more imitators. | |

This may not be very practical, especially in boy-girl material with facials, but I do not think there are enough girls with glasses, though please feel free to dispute this. It is not a fetish for me, but it is something I rarely see, at least outside the big designer sunglasses that girls occasionally wear. I do like the short hair idea. I think long hair is like big breasts though; the majority of viewers prefer it, so that's what they are going to deliver. The thing is when I spot shaved, or just plain short, hair it can be hard to forget (remember Sigourney Weaver? Belladonna?), and on the right girl it can look pretty hot. I would like to see more genuine lesbian scenes. In too many, you can clearly notice they aren't into girls at all. On an old DVD, I watched a behind-the-scenes. In those interviews, only one of the couples said they were bi and these girls had the only hot scene of the disk. If you're not into girls, please don't do lesbian scenes please. Calling it against the grain set it up perfectly for me. So, here I go again... on with my one-man crusade against sites like Brazzer's. In any business, it's not an assumption of what their consumers enjoy as long as it sells. As much we might like to keep the thought way back in our minds, porn is a business. If it sells, nothing's going to change on a massive scale. I agree with just about everything that's been listed here as being too much - but as long as it sells, it's all here to stay. I've said it before on here - that's why you'll almost always see me reviewing sites with amateurs. Few, if any, tacked on tits, no gotta-fuck-in-30-positions-in-ten-minutes sex scenes, and no makeup-applied-with-a-putty-knife women dressed in some porn industry's idealized picture of what they think we want women to look like. Me? I'd like to see a return to the 70's style of things - what's now being called Classic Porn. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that that's what I pulled my way through puberty to (yeah - pun intended), but there was just something more real about it - stupid plots and all. Gimme real tits, full bushes and a little bit of acting, even if it's bad. P.S. Stop the damn topiary crap! If you have to shave it, ladies, shave it all off. I know that this is an unpopular subject, but I want the return of bush. No not him, but the older bush that was prevalent in movies made in the 70's and 80's. I miss seeing a nice well groomed bush on a performer. I like Goldfish idea for performers with short hair, but I'd settle for models that change their hair style or color from time to time. I just found and joined PU, then found this thread "against the grain". Hooray! Just what I'm looking for! Thanks to Goldfish for starting it and to everyone who has seconded and expanded the opening salvo. On the practical side, what is the best way to share lists of specific scenes that we "against the grain" people find particularly delicious and hot? I guess putting such a list in a review would be OK, particularly if the review is mentioned here in the "against the grain" forum. Or putting such a list in a comment about a specific website could work too, I guess. I wish there were a place in one's profile to put such a personal list. Other suggestions on how to share lists of specific scenes? There are also quite a few very erotic "against the grain" scenes available for free, especially from MyFreePaySite. Until recently, you could download the scenes from there (and I have all the best ones!). Now they are all streaming -- you can still capture them with software like WMRecorder but maybe at lower resolution. Anyone interested in exchanging DVD's of our favorite scenes of free porn? | |

Hi Babygetreal, I think you have some good ideas as to what you look for in porn. Many times I and others try to get at what we feel is that intangible extra that makes a site or video work well. There is a problem with translating that gut feeling into the proper words to make others see your point of view. But, I think you can do well as I see you put some thought into explaining your philosophy. I like some things you don't and I am sure you can say the same. Well, I'll toss in my bits on this: I prefer shaved, though, as I've said before, a little low-nap carpeting is fine by me. Welcome to the forum and PU in general, BabyGetReal! You've brought up a very important point when it comes to Porn. I watched a main stream romantic comedy the other day that had a couple of fairly "daring" sex scenes and found myself more turned on then I have been with much of the stuff I've downloaded from Video Sites lately. It does make a huge difference if the mood is set first, with some affection, tenderness, foreplay etc., before the director switches to the actual sex scenes. I am also craving scenes where, upon completion of the sex act, there is some embracing and caressing. I don't think too many would agree with us because most, if given the chance, will edit all the meaningful stuff, the stuff that gives a scene context, just to get to the "money shot" quicker. The only thing I would disagree with, when it comes to your taste, is your rejection of "slut" (and I assume other similar terms). Hi GCode, thanks for asking! :-) I haven't been doing too well. New sites of interest that show up occasionally don't have enough contents yet to please me, old sites I discover that might appeal to my taste have either low quality contents because they stopped updating some time ago or, if I return to a familiar one, don't give me the same "kick" I got out of them originally. I am currently subscribing to All Over 30 again because I had great hopes when it comes to their videos, after they announced that all material shot after May xx? was in High Resolution or in the case of videos in High Definition, but all updates for the past three days have been in the old format when it comes to videos. They must have a huge amount of older material that they release over a period of time so until they use that up, good quality videos are hard to find on their site. Then I also returned to Videosz and found that the complaints that their DVDs were lacking excitement and were too much the same lately were justified. It seems that the whole Porn world has gone anal and oral and every update seems the same with only the faces changing. A sad tale of woe. There were two sites that tempted me, because they were different ... they were both Japanese and I like their story lines and their acting. I find that Japanese actresses are much more demure and give delicious (more restrained, mock-reluctant) performances, much more time is also spent on foreplay and getting undressed than in North American Porn, HOWEVER, I don't think I'll ever get past those d.....d pixels hiding their naughty bits. :-) I've tried, I've really tried but it's a major turn off for me. Meh, that was not long winded and I like reading forum posts so don't worry about the length. Just read your reply and this post to find out they finally got HD videos now at All Over 30. This will be a great addition but if they don't attempt to reformat some of their old videos or at least bring some back that I loved for new HD videos, I don't think I'll be joining soon. It's a damn shame that you can't find anything appealing lately. I saw a review and comments for Vintage Flash which if I can recall, you were kinda in to that type of content. So, you may want to check that out if you have not already. When it comes to the sites that I'm going for recently, well they are the standard popular euro model sites because I just started with these models. So, I've bet you have heard, visited, been a member, or just don't like the majority of my list to join next but here are some: ALS Angels, Anilos, Nubiles, Give Me Pink, In The Crack, Spread It Wide, DFlowered, Crygasm, and a few more that are probably way out of your style in terms of content (TS and an animatation site). There are a few asian sites that I am wanting to join for pics including 88 Square and Shave Asian. For movies I want to rejoin J Sex Network again and give a site with a lot of more extreme Japanese content in Asia Movie Pass a chance. Well, that's a laundry list for me and my spending limit has gone down dramatically so this will take me awhile. They are all quite standard sites so I don't think any will interest you at the time. All I can say is keep looking around, maybe a REAL new mature site will come out that can compete with the others but I just don't see it soon (believe me, I'm waiting as well). Strange you should mention Vintage Flash because I just put it under "favorites" to remind myself when it's time to subscribe to my next site. But my taste is actually more eclectic than that. I have subscribed to a few on your wish list like: Anilos, Nubiles, In The Crack and have enjoyed them as well, despite the fact that Anilos was the only one fitting my preferred niche. Have a quick look at their recent updates and confirm for me that, in their case as well, the models aren't as hot as they used to be! If you are talking about Anilos and updates, I looked at the whole month of July and they are so-so. I'd say half of them look good while the rest look average. If it was All Over 30, I'd probably be saying half look good and half look bad instead of average. But, I have never been a member so I'm going on looks alone. I'm not sure if it is model quality plus content that you are talking about. I wouldn't either. First time I subscribed I went by the updates because I found some of the models breathtakingly beautiful (they're happily resting on my hard drive) but the present updates appear to be indeed only so-so, with some exceptions.
