Toadsith (48) Off-line as in, in the real world? Not really - as I don't have subscriptions to any industry magazines and any site big enough for main stream media to pick up on I've already run across via online resources. As for friends, I am their adviser for porn - so I rarely, if ever, learn about new sites from them. So there really should be a sixth option: "Not Applicable."

Toadsith, actually, the question wasn't restricted to porn sites. ;)

The object is to see if users are the type of people who will recall sites (adult or non-adult) they've seen elsewhare (magizines, newspaper, etc) and then visit the site.

As the question isn't restricted to porn sites ... yes, if the site is interesting enough I'll surely give it a try. May it be a site focused on comix, music, films*) then chances are high that it type in the URL.

*) in all cases definitely only if it's about non-mainstream stuff. As for porn it's sometimes a bit different ;-)

Wittyguy (105) I almost never hear about porn sites from non on-line resources so that's pretty much a no-go for me. Otherwise, if the site sounds cool, I'll check it out.

Because you refined the question so that nit includes any website, I changed my vote to Often.

I keep a small pad in my wallet where I jot down sites mentioned by colleagues and friends, that I see published in newspapers and magazines, and that are mentioned on radio and TV. I also check out links mentioned here on Porn Users, some of which (porn and non-porn) have been most useful.

Drooler (220) Oh, sure. thingsyoungerthanmccain was my latest find: the automatic transmission, velcro, duct tape, the shopping cart, the polio vaccine, etc.

Oh! I'm an idiot - sorry, lol. In that case - yes! All the freaking time! The web is so incomprehensibly massive, that I often run across articles mentioning some obscure website - especially little project pages or articles on various studies and so on. Science magazines are great for finding nifty little sites for more content on one topic or another. Hmm... that reminds me, I have to renew some subscriptions...

badandy400 (103) I do it all the time as well. I see something in an ad and check it out. Other times I get into something at work and end up looking at their stuff on the web, it is very useful for an engineer, or any profession really.

Every now and then I hear of a porn site, but usually if it is something I have not already heard of it usually does not turn out to be much. On that note, I have been told about pretty good sites by people on here rather than reading a review I will have someone actually suggest a site, Aniazi.com for example.

Yes I did, good catch there! I good the letter backwards. In fact it might have even been you who suggested it, I can not remember though. I pobably would have never given the site a look, but since it was suggested I looked at it, joined it, and I am glad I did.

pat362 (375) I've been know on some occasion to visit a site because it was in the news. Other than that I can't remeber the last time I saw a site off-line.

Davit (46) Yeah - sometimes a site get's plugged following a radio interview. That's how I got onto the likes of iceagenow and climateaudit, from hearing the people who run them in interviews that inspired me to look further.

I like the thingsyoungerthanmccain.com. If you were a creationist, couldn't you list "the universe" as well?

Haha - only if McCain were 3 or 4 thousand years old. Actually, their estimate of the Earth's age (which would also be the Universe's age) might be a bit longer than that - I can't remember.

I think most hardcore creationists put the "birth of time" somewhere around 4 to 5 thousand B.C. Taking that view at least ends the discussion about whether cavemen drew caveporn ;)
