Manwin Boss Arrested Fabian Thylmann, the managing partner of Manwin, has been arrested for tax evasion in Belgium. Will be interesting to see how this plays out... | |

I guess he should have moved to the US and laundered billions of drug cartel & terrorist-funding money like HSBC did - give the US government a chunk of it back and no jail time whatsoever. Ya just gotta steal MORE to be safer in this world! | |

^I think Thylmann stole plenty of money with all the Tube Sites Manwin owns but I guess he didn't want to give any to the US government. I am very curious to see what the repercussions will be from this episode. Mike South is a guy who's post I enjoy reading and his theory is that poor Thylmann is really just a puppet and although he will go down. It's possible that his bosses will get away. That is unless the governments of different Countries don't pool their info together and follow the money. Long live the Brown Coats. | |

By no means am I against people making money and succeeding in business but don't you just love it when someone considered skilled and ruthless turns out to be someone who simply made it by breaking laws?  | |

I think that the border between illegality and prodigious success is tenuous and easily crossed. I also believe that many who are considered successful have only succeeded because their legal infringements have not been detected or proved. Laws exist to limit activities and prevent the extreme exploitation on which prodigious success depends. The very successful are either extremely lucky or have made some fairly careful calculations regarding where they can make use of legally questionable activities. Normal, decent people do not make huge sums of money. Not all of the conspicuously successful break laws but I do not think we should be surprised when some are found to have done so. And we ordinary folk should not too quickly condemn those who have broken laws. Many of us commit minor infringements, particularly with regard to financial laws, though usually not on a scale which makes it worthwhile for the authorities to prosecute. Or, to put it another way, it would not be cost effective for authorities to bring 100 million prosecutions per year against minor offenders who have insufficient funds to cover the cost of prosecution. Occasionally, a high profile prosecution is brought against an extreme offender, largely to make the rest of us feel that the authorities are on top of their act. Edited on Dec 12, 2012, 02:15pm | |

Exactly - the HSBC case proves that conclusively, Capn. Here was THE money-laundering bank, THE go-to bank of the drug cartels. The US government has imprisoned many thousands of people - especially young people of color - for drug offenses. They've locked away people for years for even the suspicion of raising money for support of organizations deemed to be "terrorist", but THE money-laundering bank, a bank that had detailed plans of how to cover up where money came from in order to move it around and profit from it - only had to give up 6 weeks profit in order to avoid ALL criminal prosecution for EVERYONE working for the bank that was involved in this stuff for years. The lesson for anybody paying attention - Don't just steal BIG, STEAL HUGE!!! Don't just commit minor crimes, commit GIGANTIC ENORMOUS CRIMES if you want to get away with it entirely. I bet 99.9% of the people in prison would have gladly given up 6 weeks of profit in order to avoid prosecution. The US Justice system - gotta love it! | |
