JAV censorship should be banned! My laptop monitor sometimes melts while I am watching Japanese porn. The monitor develops squiggly lines that blur the good parts (the stunt cock, the model's vagina, etc.). Should I throw my laptop into the refrigerator, to cool things down? How am I supposed to watch these Japanese videos, when the good parts are getting blurred? Japan has some of the most lovely models in the world. I don't know what to tell you about the mosaic thing. If it's a Japanese law then that's the way it goes. "In the Realm of the Senses" is an interesting movie that had an impact on Japanese censorship. It was made by the Japanese director Nagisa Oshima in 1976 in Japan but by a French company with the film being processed and edited in France (to avoid Japanese censorship laws). It is based upon real incident that acquired mythical proportions in Japan. A Japanese businessman and his mistress were drawn into a highly sexual and obsessive relationship. In 1936, the mistress, Sada Abe, asphyxiated her lover, and cut off his member and kept it. She was convicted of second degree murder and served five years in prison. The movie, which is quite beautiful, is a highly fictionalized account with many sex scenes that are not simulated and show his erect member, insertion, and a scene in which she inserts an egg in her vagina and pops it out. My recollection is that the Japanese courts had a hard time applying the 1976 censorship laws to the film, and that the current pixelation (a less drastic censorship) was the result (but I can't find an authoritative source to confirm this). An apparently uncut version (with no pixelation) can be rented from Netflix. The pixelation in Japanese porn varies a lot in how much it hides. Some uses large pixels and seriously blurs a large area; while in other cases, the pixelation is fine (leaving some rough detail) and restricted exactly to the penis and vulva (leaving the anus and jizz in plain view). Yeah, it's a part of the Criterion Collection now. If the film's considered highly explicit and un-simulated (which I guess it is) it's still not porn. Really more of an art house film, though to be honest sometimes I can't really tell the difference...though I am more, uh, "calm" when I watch non-porn films. Plus there's a lot to appreciate that's not pussy-tits-and-ass in the more decent non-adult films, including this one, but I did find it kind of boring (and quite violent). My current non-porn favorite is probably 9 Songs, which has lots of nudity and sex (very un-simulated!) and it's available on DVD if anyone's curious. Sucks that "In the Realm..." led to the pixel regulations given the size of their industry and relative strangeness of the fetishes the Japanese put in porn. (Sorry if that sounds prejudice, they're just very creative when it comes to sex.) I would have a genuine interest in their porn but I detest censorship so I'm not even going to bother when there's pixelation going on--unless I can get a job reviewing the footage to be pixelated! Agreed. It was a bit boring and the characters were not believable. I wondered if it was just poor scripting and acting (probably) or partly a cultural difference. The Japanese porn that I've seen in hotels in Japan is sometimes VERY creative and exciting. I wish I knew which website had it and I'd subscribe. But some of it is also way too violent for my tastes: rape and brutality and sadism. Anyway, I've watched a lot of it and in the end, the pixelation doesn't really bother me that much. It is not closeups of genitals that I find exciting, but the whole scenario, beautiful whole-body shots, and the level of sexual excitement. Oh yes, I can't stand the females mewing, whining, and crying like sick cats, but its nearly universal. Rarely I have seen one where the woman acts "normal" and enjoys the sex. | |

BabyGetReal has hit the nail on the head, at least for me. I find the Japanese girls very attractive, but in the majority of porn I've seen, once they get down to it, they just don't seem like they are enjoying it. As you say, it's all that mewling  and even in the most vanilla of material, there seems to be a theme of degradation which doesn't do it for me.It's a big industry there and I'm sure most involved are professionals, so I can only concur that's what folk want to see? Problem I've had for the past couple yrs. Hard to find mainstream JAV stars who seem to really be into it. Esp if they're newer girls. That said, much like western smut and can be applied to entertainment in general, if you're willing to dig, can find good stuff. Sadly though, don't think there are subscription sites for stuff I think may be more in line. More DVD stuff. I think it's a cultural thing. From Eastern Europeans you seem to invariably get low repeated moans (ooh, aah) when they express their pleasure. I certainly don't like the mosaic but, at the same time, I'm aware that different cultures have different thoughts on what is and what isn't appropriate in different situations. That's not limited to porn. Get your hands on a copy of the book called "Kiss, Bow or Shake Hands". (I know Amazon carries it.) The book was written, aimed at corporate representatives who deal in international trade, but I think just about anybody would find it interesting. There are things that you probably wouldn't take notice of that other people find repulsive. I'm not sure if it was, as it happens, another Japanese "issue", but I remember reading that blowing your nose into a Kleenex and putting in your pocket is a big no-no somewhere in the world. Culture is one thing, the legal system is another. Would it really be inappropriate to their culture if they modified their laws? Much of world may accuse the U.S., or at least its leadership, as being overly prudish and repressed when it comes to sex and porn, but I would say it's out laws, not our culture--the truckloads of money that Americans spend on porn would say it's a proud part or our culture! I just always figured it was something in their culture that led to the law. But, when comparing it to the arcane and antiquated sex laws still on the books here in the U.S., I'd have to say that no, it probably wouldn't be inappropriate for their law to change.
Like I said, I think it was a Japanese thing. I read the book probably 15 or more years ago and don't remember. If I wasn't blowing tons of cash I don't have on computer parts right now, I'd probably go to Amazon and buy the book. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity. | ||
