BadMrFrosty (56) Not worth the money in the slightest. When 20-30 bucks can get me tons of quality porn on some sites I don't see the reason to pay by the minute, scene etc. Maybe if the prices were low enough I would consider it but the offers I have seen for this kind of payment model are way off the mark.

gaypornolover (38) Totally agree with you BadMrFrosty - the sites are such poor value I'm amazed anyone uses them.

Maybe if they were very cheap they'd be a good way of previewing videos in full to decide whether to join a site or download an individual video.

However in reality they are so expensive I can only assume people who don't know about regular sites, or for some reason don't trust regular sites but do trust these, are their only customers.

DRM-free downloads all the way for me!

Can I sue for copyright infringement?

elephant (65) Not worth it for me, would like sites to offer scenes individually though cause Its annoying to join sites just for a handful of scenes of a couple of people you like, be much better if there was one universl site like a porn market site where companies posted individual scenes, take lots of work I know but be great and you could search a fav porn star and buy individual scenes on her from all the sites she has appeared on, the website and the company who's video it is would each get a cut. Say $1 or $0.50 a scene but you had to first of put $20 in the account and maybe works on a token system.

Now theres a business idea for someone.

tangub (151) I voted "other" as poor value for money didn't seem to be covered by the other options. If I was interested in videos I would be much more likely to join a site like Videobox than to join a pay per view service.

TheSquirrel (53) Absolutely not, horrible value for money, and you don't even get to keep the video. A rip off for the uninformed

pat362 (367) I picked yes for the selection because they truly have some movies that can't be found anywhere else.
All of their prices are way too expensive and I would be much happier if a dowload site offered the movies I'm looking for but for now I'm stuck at visiting the streaming sits from time to time.

hodayathink (18) Yes, for two reasons. The selection on the biggest ones is great (like pat362 said, there's generally videos there that you literally cannot get from anyplace else, and that alone can make them worth it). Second, the value gets to be bad when you're looking at buying hundreds of minutes to watch full length scenes. If you spend you minutes sparsely (I primarily use it to preview material from companies/sites I'm not sure about, and occasionally to watch parts of hard-to-find material), I could spend 20-30 dollars and have enough minutes for an entire year.

Toadsith (48) I don't mind streaming only sites, but pay-per-minute or pay-per-view sites, while having a massive selection, are mostly a rip-off due to competition like Videobox. The only time they are good value is if you wanted to see a very particular scene or movie and didn't or couldn't buy the DVD of it - or only wanted to watch it once and the VOD is therefore cheaper.

Drooler (218) As far as I'm concerned, VOD is DOA.

rearadmiral (322) I think VOD sites are like the crack cocaine of online porn. The draw is selection, because no DVD site comes close to offering the selection that the best VOD sites have. The downside is streaming-only or DRM. I use VOD sites a lot to see stuff I can't see anywhere else.

I agree with all who say the value isn't there* but when you're a collector looking for a particular scene and the only place that has it is a VOD site, you do what you have to.

*The Hot Movies webmaster commented here that the usual 'stay' on their site is just a few minutes, so I'm guessing that most customers just visit for a short while with pay-per-minute subscriptions and leave. Part of the problem with PU members discussing this is that we're not the average person surfing porn. The average guy is probably pretty happy with VOD sites.

turboshaft (24) I have browsed a few VOD sites when looking for certain titles...only to stopped by the prospect of paying for such a terrible deal. Let me pay a flat rate, by the month or more, with unlimited, DRM-free downloads!

I'll "pay per minute" when I choose to sit and watch every minute of an entire video and I'm just giving up some time (and I suppose whatever shred of decency I might have left too :-) ).

RustyJ (145) DRM free downloads or nothing. It's not just the browser that I view stuff with. For TV or projector viewing a more compatible format is must.

otoh (54) I said other because it depends on the user. Some folk don't want to keep porn on their computers or external drives, and only look at it occasionally - I suspect VOD sites still beat buying DVDs etc.

Although I wouldn't join, the fact they are in business suggests it's a model that works; as long as customers know the alternatives, and there is no deceit, I think the sites are OK...
