Need help valuing adult site I was hoping to get some advice from the more experienced webmasters here. So, I am in touch with a producer who has a site up for sale. I cannot say the site, but it had an Alexa ranking of about 600,000 globally. I don't know their conversion ratio, but probably average. Apparently there are several companies interested in this site too. How would you value a site of this size (content and domain name)? Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off. | |

Be careful with valuation based on just Alexa rank because the rank can be inflated by paid traffic (adwords traffic, etc) and may not be representative of the real value of the domain without traffic from advertising programs. Everyone loves the pussy: http://www.skeet-skeet-skeet.com/ | |

I got absolutely zero experience with valuing a website but I'd go so far to say that you should venture outside the world of porn and look at how "normal" companies that sell web only content (aka - nonretail, consumer good stuff) are valued. Traffic means nothing if it doesn't generate sales. I do know that buying a traditional brick and mortar company is quite involved and you have to do your due diligence ... definitely not something you just up and decide to do unless you got a pile of cash you want to burn. | |

Take what I'm about to write with a grain of salt because it's coming from someone who doesn't know a lot about the subject in question. The first question you should ask yourself and definitely the person looking to sale the site is...Why? I mean if the site is doing so well then why would he or she want to sell it. If the answer makes sense then the next question is what am I getting for my money. Can this type of content be found on other sites and more importantly can the same content be found on another site (or multiple sites). Long live the Brown Coats. | |

I've always found Alexa's traffic estimates to be wildly inaccurate. Last time I checked they rated my lead site as having half the traffic of another of my sites. Its figures bore no resemblance to reality, as the lead site actually got over four times the traffic of the other site. I've no reason to assume that Alexa is more accurate for anyone else's sites.
