DO NOT VISIT THIS SITE!

DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK TO THIS SITE!!!

I just clicked through to this site after seeing the discount on TBP. The site is using that favorite of the 1990's web: un-closable windows and self-generating pop-ups for porn sites. It didn't even wait to give me an exit pop-up, but started the ad infinitum pop-up stream when I clicked to get back to the home page. I had to kill the Firefox process.

(BTW, yes, pop-ups are normally blocked in Firefox. However, this site used a dialog box that required you to click OK or Cancel. Clicking either just generated a new window to more ads.)

I post this warning in hopes that this site will DIE!

WeeWillyWinky (88) Thanks for the warning. I hope not only that the site dies, but I wish the person behind all those pop-ups would have the guts to come here and explain the reasoning behind that kind of bullshit. I don't blame anyone for wanting to make money, or even for exploiting the naivete and/or gullability of certain people. I wouldn't do it myself but I recognize it as all a part of the game. However, the kind of crap that you describe, apoctom, is not salesmanship in any way, shape or form.

Imagine being at a car dealership and this guy is showing you a car. You say, "That's okay, not interested," and suddenly the guy yanks you by the arm and shoves you into the car. "Come on, start it up!" he cries, and then when you try and get out of the car, he leans up against the door. You go for the other side, and there's another "salesman" blocking that door, and all the while they're shouting at you, demanding that you start the car and think more about whether it interests you or not. You start the car and slam it into reverse, trying to get away from the two idiots, but there's another idiot who's just parked a big truck behind you. "Come on," they all shout, "You know you want this car...just sign the fucking contract and we'll let you go!"

It would be no worse than what the idiots behind all that pop-up hell are doing.

exotics4me (463) I was on that site the other day and it did the same to me, except it said, "Click ok to get $99 access to gay porn". I clicked the x to close the dialog window and just like you, got another ad, so I clicked the x again and got another ad. I tried clicking cancel but it did nothing, so I went ahead and clicked ok to get $99 access to gay porn and it closed it.

I take it they are being smartasses, knowing people won't click the ok for $99 gay porn, but that is how I closed it. The site looks halfway promising, but after seeing that they are ran by smartasses, I decided not to join. And hopefully others will follow suit.

Toadsith (48) Ok - seeing as how it wasn't a virus warning, I had to visit the site, and yowza - they did a pretty good job and making those bloody pop-ups keep going. Fortunately I've got setup in Firefox that New Windows should open as Tabs (Tools / Options / Tabs, it's a radio box) so it wasn't a big problem, closed the message boxes about 20 times and then the pop-up chain finally broke. Pretty annoying though. Trying to exit Firefox wouldn't even work - thought I was going to have to kill the process like suggested above. Ah, it has been a long while since I'd seen one of those - almost makes me nostalgic for the late 90's internet... back when there actually was good free porn and pop-ups ruled the world.

jd1961 (95) I appreciate the warning concerning this nasty practice, but....
if popups didn't work, sites wouldn't use them. My curses are reserved for the idiots (and there have to be thousands and thousands of them) who buy stuff with popups. Sites don't use popups to annoy, they use it to sell stuff to fools.

jd1961 (95) FYI, I saw no popups using the Opera browser.
