Is anyone else having issues with browsing on VideoBox?
I keep getting directed to one of the new "premium" channels while browsing. I go into a dvd's page than when I hit the back button at times I am sent to a page only for Vivid dvds and the only way I can get back to where I was is to go all the way through the site from the main page again. I never had this issue before the "premium" stuff was added separately. This happens more often than I would like it to, especially when I am in a hurry.
So I am wondering if it is just me or anyone else is having any similar issue.
I have seen it mentioned here that PU reviewers get a special price? Or am I dickin' the wrong bird here?
And if that is the case the how do we go about getting our discounted rate?
Do we need to hit someone, sleep with someone, or is there a box we tick and get 90% off or something?
Anything to save a few pennies would help bearing in mind that we in the Uk get dry rumped when it comes to regional pricing.
So, okay, the price is right for PU reviewers, there is a huge selection (enough to make me subscribe three times over the months) but I think TheSquirrel is right when he states in his review that not enough attention is paid to niche content (fetish in his words). He also makes a comparison to a sweet shop and I find, through personal experience that, while they have lots of chocolate bars, there are next to no truffles and pralines to be found.
Everything is so much the same that only the low price kept bringing me back. They really have to start catering to a wider "audience" if they want to keep getting scores in the nineties.
Adding bonus channels won't do the trick.
In my opinion eighty is just about right. Strange that no one else seems bored.
This is perhaps a good time to join after all. They seem to have a different option for long term memberships. The short term memberships have increased in price. And it would seem that the price listing on TBP/PU no longer applies, at least for the moment.
Here is how it breaks down with or without going through PU/TBP:
Basic
-1 month $15.96
-3 month $9.59/month single charge of $28.76
-12 month 6.66/month single charge of $79.96
Premium - DVD resolution
-1 month $23.96
-3 month +1 free=4 months $11.99/month single charge of $47.96
-12 month +6 free=18 months $6.66/month single charge of $119.96
Vivid and Evil Angel bill as follows:
-Basic 12, 3, 1, and premium 3 month bill at $9.95 per channel.
-Premium single month is $17.95 per channel
-Premium 12 month is $6.63 per channel
The extra channels seem to be billed separately even from each other. What I do like is that we can get long term memberships even cheaper than before. Right now a membership that is 8 months longer is only $20 more than they were charging for the 10 month deal they had before at $10/month.

They raised the price and added premium channels. This does not seem too smart with the economy as it is. As long as they don't change the 5 new dvds per day for the non premium membership it's not that big a deal but the price increase is. Too bad.
I was wondering how would VideoBox celebrate its 6,000th uploaded DVD and it turns out it was quite a bang: Pop Star, their first DVD from Vivid studio.
I didn't mention it in my recent review but I think it's pretty obvious there's a lot of porn on VideoBox but not all porn is on VideoBox. For instance, they don't have a single Jenna Jameson (in her prime) scene. If VideoBox is now able to tap into content from huge studios like Vivid, anything is possible.
Quoting from their blog entry from March 11th 2009, "Pop Star features the very talented Monique Alexander, Audrey Bitoni, Presley Maddox and Carolyn Reese" and "this video is the first of several exciting things to come".
In any case, a new search engine and better metadata would also sound exciting.
If you enjoy DVD content then I would recommend videobox. The have a huge searchable library of scenes that can be downloaded and saved to you computer.
The comment/bang system is cool too. Sometimes I have more fun just reading what people have to say about a scene.
Do you still honor the pricing on "Best Porn" I was going to join for $14.95. I am sorry but the current price of $23.96 is way past my threshold in this day of economic uncertainity. I have been a previous member at least 12 times over the past three years.
Have had very little complaints about this site. It is all that it is cracked up to be. Comments are allowed on every scene and users are able to bang up or down other users comments. I enjoy checking out a new upload and reading comments before I decide to d/l or not. Now has a pretty good player on site so d/ls are saved for the good stuff. Most comments are centered on whether a girl does anal which isn't my bag, but must be others. As for updates come when they say and seem to be varied in fetish. quality is good, have recommended site to many friends.
It is really disappointing that a site as good and as dedicated as VideoBox would not go as far to encode HD videos with widescreen resolution. I just realized this in one of their most recent additions, "Breakin' Them In #9", says HD 16:9 on the cover yet the videos are still in the standard resolutions that VideoBox offers (640x480 for DVD, 480x352 for High, and 320x240 for Med).
I would like to comment on this Videobox regional pricing debacle. I am here in the MIdwest of the United States and the only price that I can access for Videobox is $24.95 monthly.
I was a member of Videobox before and I only paid $9.95 a month. Now they want to try to charge me $24.95 a month! That is the only pricing plan that is being offered when I try to join.
I have emailed Videobox about this and they did not even have the courtesy to give me a reply. (yes I checked my spam folder)
That's a shame because I really liked the site, but there is no way I am going to pay basically 2.5 times what I used to pay for a membership.
Hopefully Videobox will rethink this crappy regional pricing policy.
You know, and maybe it's just me, but I am getting sick of this pricing policy that so many of these sites adopt.
In the UK we already pay more than our US counterparts for products bought from the US or the equivalent product in the UK but that is understandable as there are import duties to pay, exchange rates to consider and so on.
Now, with these download sites I am aware of duties and taxes etc but why are we quoted in dollars and then charged in euros.
Videobox is now the EU equivalent and at current sterling exchange rates that makes it expensive.
Why has this changed over the last couple of months?
If it's $17.99 in dollars then how the hell this this magically become 17.99 EU for us in the UK?
The same can be said for all DDF sites.
I think a solid explanation is required and not some pathetic taxation excuse, simply because I own and run a download site that caters for the US and EU and know all my costs and they sure as hell do not conform to the ludicrous figures that these sites are quoting.
Additionally, could Porn Site Review please update their pricing on site details to reflect this? Videobox is currently $17.99 but when you go to join it becomes 17.99 EU.
To put that into perspective: $17.99 equates to about £12 in the UK, at 17.99 EU it now equates to about £16. That's almost a 40% hike.

I am getting 400 kbps from other sites today.....only 30-80 kbps from Videobox...I have 8 MB connection....Sat. morning here and speed has gone from 80 to just 35 kbps - 4 hours to d/l a 20 min clip - PATHETIC !
I wonder if any European PU is a member of this site at the moment. To me the download speed is very bad for 2 days now. I saw a speed of less than 50 kB/sec for most of the time. To download one longer movie (~700 MB) took me several hours yesterday. Is there anyone else experiencing the same?
I could try to use my second ISP but I left the password in my office so I can't test that before tomorrow evening.
I am a pretty regular member at VB, probably 3-4 months out of every year, but on my current subscription there, I am having a lot of trouble with downloads.
Probably half of my downloads stop halfway through downloading and the error, "Could not read source file, contact administrator" comes up. So, I have to refresh the download and start over. I'm not for sure if they are limiting connections as I usually have 6-8 going at a time. Which I wouldn't mind if they are limiting connections, but would like to know in advance so I don't waste time downloading too many at a time, only to have to start over.
Oh and everything else is going fine on VB. They are starting to get more and more of the "tier A" studio DVDs.
I was quite happy to see that videobox.com offered me a subscription for $14.95 per month for the DVD quality option because I joined after following the link to the site here on PU. First I only wanted to get some stuff from Ruby Tuesday, Da'Bella, Kelly and other mature porn stars but then I found lots of content featuring girls from ALS Scan as well - this is porn heaven :-) except for the fact that it's video only :-(
The ratio of cost versus quality + content is the best I've seen so far and this will be a rating somewhere over 90 points for this site. It's almost perfect and the download speed is also more than o.k. with me. Thumbs up for videobox.com!

But this term I do not regret - and not only because it's a good price. Videobox has grown - not only in amount of content, but also in quality (never thought I'd say that) - but the tech quality of most later videos is better since my last visit (Feb./March 2008). Before that time it was useless to join for HD-membership - the quality was mostly not better than "high". Now there is a difference, for sure.
Even better: Videobox has made a fine job during this past year concerning better variations in international videos. And some very rare ones, too.
Bottom line: Video Box has made it really fun to spend hours browsing for stuff - and the quality is now mostly tops....

There have been so many reviews here that I've just decided to add a couple of my own thoughts. I'm more of a picture guy so I don't do video only sites too often. The price is great, the multiple daily updates are great and so is the volume of content. My only disappointments were that most of the content was older, we'e talking years or decades old stuff and the quality is only average given the age and lack of top tier studio compilations. The search function is good which is needed for a site this size.
Overall, if you like pics along with your vids I'd save my money for something from 21st Sextury, Suze.net or DDF productions. With those you get current stuff, high quality plus pics but you lose out on the price on some of them. I don't have anything bad to say about this site; just realize that you do give up some things for the great price.
Joining through ccbill, I was offered an unchecked 3-day trial to Twistys for 2.45 EUR (they are using regional pricing so it was 17.95 EUR for one month DVD at Videobox and 2.45 EUR for Twistys). I had never been to Twistys so that additional trial closed the deal even more for me.
VideoBox has added a fair number of compilations on its site. Unfortunately, a lot of these compilations are for scenes which are already available. Thankfully, there is a large user group which can identify and point out which movies the scenes originally belonged to. This is especially evident in Euro movies, but also in smaller studio American films.
It would be nice if VB took the time to see if the film they are posting is actually new or if it is just a repackage of their archives.
I had been a VB member for a long time, probably 4+ years. I've even recommended it to friends who have gone on to get memberships. Today though, something happened that, while trivial, reminded me that all big companies, VB included, don't really think about customer service. My account was deleted today. I can only presume that this happened because the expiry date on my credit card changed. No big deal, but they have my email address - wouldn't it make more sense to fire off an email to ask for an updated expiry date?
Maybe this is a sign... I have been looking for more niche stuff so maybe now is the time to leave VB for a while.
This is a site that keeps me coming back. I subscribe for a month, get tired of running across the same DVDs even though I keep searching for something different, cancel and then a couple of months down the road I am back because I miss Video Box. I am just about to leave again but make no mistake, a couple of months from now .... ! :-)
I do have one complaint though: not enough niche material. Thousands of anal, dp, oral, pov scenes and DVDs but hardly any contents that would be anti-mainstream like, for instance, "hairy" (pubes) models or really mature ones instead of thirty-five year old MILFs. I realize that catering to main stream tastes makes for a successful site but I do wish they'd slip in the odd DVD that's just a bit different!
