Oh dear, I know you're right. Porn.com pissed me off because of their trick of trying to convince me that their "discount" of buying into the exact same network for 3 times the money, when I tried to cancel membership, is a good deal. Otherwise I would still be with them. VideosZ tries to trick you into buying membership with a pre checked cross sale, so they pissed me off too. One or two others I went to join had the same dirty tricks, as well as regional discrimination.
The result of all this is that for the past three months I have been downloading for free using those file sharing sites which Khan and Rick hate. I send a resounding "fuck you" to VideosZ, Porn.com, pre checked cross sellers, and regional discrimination sites. Piss me off or try to trick me and you lose my custom. I'm, not putting up with it, and I don't have to. If you go out of business, good.
I have been tempted for the past two years to join VideosZ but I couldn't stomach the cross sell so I never joined. Good to hear you don't think they're any better than Video Box. Plenty annoys me about VB too. I have money, I'm willing to spend it, but for the life of me, I cannot find a site worthy of receiving my money.
Messmer, sorry about this, but once again it sounds like I'm angry. I'm always angry.

Missed this review first time around otherwise would have commented that I entirely agree with the review and the score. I'm sure they still have the perspective on some of the videos wrong too. Now American Vice has gone there isn't much to choose from in the way of quality video sites. I'd settle for just one, because that's all you need, but I can't find it.

When I was a member I found speeds were very very slow. They were down 1kb/s on one occasion, but your speed of 10kb/s I found to be quite common in the afternoon, here in the UK. That was 2 years ago. It eas the slowest site I ever experienced. I have never rejoined.

It was always in the afternoon, so it was impossible to stream and pointless to download in the afternoon. It picked up after midnight. That was one thing that was really good about American Vice. I found their speeds really good at any time of day. They will really be missed.

Would you beleieve a low of 1kb/s? Not kidding! At the same time I was getting trouble, some members said download speeds were fine, and other members were reporting really slow speeds. Maybe it was worse in Europe because that seems to be where most of the reports of slow speeds were coming from. At the time I was getting no other problems from any other site.

Good review. I like what you say. I think there are a lot of cons about this site that newbies miss becasue they are not aware. They become more focussed on the amount of material rather than the quality, and the lousy customer service. For me this site had the worst download spped of any I have ever experienced. I joined this site once about two years ago and never returned.

Have to agree with you Denner. For me this is the most overrated site out there. I prefer the quality and customer service of American Vice as a DVD site. If I were to look at a second choice DVD only site it would be VideosZ. I found the download and streaming speeds were ridiculously low on VideoBox. Members continually talk about the poor customer service and all the negatives you have mentioned here, yet other PU members still love the place. Oh well, just a matter of taste I suppose. I also think sites like 21st Sextury and Porn.com provide the same sort of stuff but in a different way, and as an addition, you get pictures with those sites.

I guess it hardly needs to be said that I agree. I think these people need to start concentrating much more on quality. From comments on PU it seems they also need to get some decent customer service, and also stop going down the road of trying to trick people into paying for something they didn't intend to sign up for.

I know Toadsith speaks very highly of American Vice. Been thinking of subscribing there nyself. All depends on whether they have regional variation or what their sign up policy is. It doesn't have the abundance of materials that Video Box has, but sounds pretty good, and very cheap.

I am usually up to date on what the conversion rate is. That's why the Video Box bill was a surprise. As far as I knew, at the time I was signing up for Video Box, the charge was $14.95 which I din't find out until I received the bill turned out to be £10.54. This was at a time when the dollar was worth 55 pence. That would mean the dollar must have been around $1.80. If they actually convererted the amounts close to the real rate I wouldn't complain. But as I noted, with the dollar at 55 pence I should have been paying about $8.30. I am mainly complaining because I did not see an amount even in euros when I signed up. Even now the amount is only in euros on Video Box. Some sites do give the amount in pounds. If the rate in pounds is close to the amount in dollars, these will be the first sites I consider signing up to. I have decided to boycott all sites that have regional variation and no amount stated in pounds.

I totally agree. The only way to deal with this is to do what we do - vote with our wallets. I am referring to this regional variation as discrimination. Even when there isn't regional variation, I too often find the amount you are eventually going to pay is not quoted in pounds. You then have to depend on the opposition to convert the currency to the amount they choose, using their conversion rate.

Yes it is now in euros on Video Box. There is no way of finding out what the amount they are going to charge in pounds is, without signing up. I'm certainly not going to do that. I also hate the idea of this regional discrimination. I consider this is what it is. This is because the site is receiving the amount in dollars. So I consider it discrimination. This is also why I have no moral scruples about downloading stuff free of charge. When I consider I am getting ripped off, I stay away from pay sites and just download for free.

My maths is shot to pieces. The exchange rate was $1.80 to the pound a few months ago. There is obviously a difference between $1.3 and $1.8. At the time I signed up the dollar was indeed worth about 55 pence. In fact here I have erred in CCBill's favour. At a rate of 1.8 or 1.9 (it got close to 2.0) the dollar is worth less than 55 pence. Now the pound is worth less than 1.3, but I am talking about when I signed up. I remember getting very close to 50 pence to the dollar on some sites, and for some purchases.
Compared to other purchases where I received good exchange rates, or whatever you call it, CCBill's was dreadful.

Come to think of it I'm not even disaggreeing with you here. From your perspective there is regional pricing. This is okay by me. But from my perspective, when the pricing policy is not made clear and sometimes not even quoted up front, it is basically dishonest, which is as bad or even worse than being a rip off artist. Either way it seems that through CCBill we are getting worse deals in Europe than from other billing agents. That's the way I see it anyway

I am going to have to disagree with you here. If it's regional pricing then it should be regionally priced for me in pounds, euros, or even dollars, but this is most definitely not the case. I signed up to Video Box for instance at the discount rate of $14.95. This was then converted into £10.54. You cannot argue it is regional pricing simply because it is not. The exchange rate at the time incidentally was around $1.30 to the pound. The dollar was close to 55 pence. I know this from the sites I signed up for and anything I bought in dollars at the time. It is not regional pricing when not only is the price quoted not quoted in pounds it is an overall price for everyone. I signed up through Paysite Discounts. Everywhere else I have seen the same thing though. There is never any mention of regional pricing anywhere by CCBill. You sign up for the dollars, which are quoted in dollars and are then converted from dollars. If they are not converted from dollars then the price in pounds or euros should be quoted. In this instance they were not.
I have looked now, and at the moment they are charging in euros from here. That is more like it. But at the time I signed up it was quoted in dollars. If they do not mention euros or pounds, unless it's in the really small print somewhere it is even worse than rip off conversion rates, it is deliberate deception. The way they have it on Video Box at the moment is more up front. But in the past it has not been as clear as that.
I have found the same thing from CCBill in the past. The price in euros or pounds does not appear clear. It is always the price in dollars that is quoted.
If they are going for regional pricing, the pricing should be CLEAR, not deceptive.
By the way, I know what you are saying and take the points you make on board. I accept the regional pricing idea. I just want it to be made CLEAR by CCBill and sites what the policy is and what the prices are when I am signing up. Not finding out afterwards.

It usually turns out to be much more than that, because CCBill charge rip off conversion rates. They are probably the biggest rip off artists around when it comes to converting dollars into pounds, but people go with them because they feel safer. That's fine, but you just have to be aware that you will pay about 30 per cent over the conversion rate with this organisation, as the price you pay for feeling safer.

As an addition, I would like to say that customer service sounds totally lousy at Video Box. I think this should be taken into consideration when awarding marks. It's like a very big, very cheap supermarket. It's cheap simply because there is no customer service.

That's exactly what I found and pointed out in my review of Video Box. Clearly some people are having no problems at all with download speeds, but without a doubt some of us are finding very slow speeds. Some of the trite simplistic explanations they give are just rubbish, especially if you are used to downloading.

Yes I noted this on my review of Video box. I found the speed VERY slow between the hours of about 5pm and midnight European time. It was as low as 10kb/sec on occasions. A number of downloads just timed out as well. The speed then picked up after midnight to about 200-300 kb/sec.

I've had very slow downloads around midday EST lasting for several hours. Happens like that virtually every day I have tried to download. Speed sometimes down to 10kb/sec. Then it starts to pick up around 7pm EST. Don't know why.

I have to say that the download rates of 10kb/sec have continued. It's nearly always around the same time of day - about 6pm my time. This is 1pm Eastern Time in the US. This makes downloads and streaming virtually impossible until about 11pm my time.
If I were being totally subjective I would give the site about 20 because that's what it's worth to me. It's been the worst site I have ever streamed or downloaded anything from. I have even streamed from MLB, something that a lot of people have trouble with, without too much trouble.
I don't know why I have had problems with Video Box. I have continued to attempt to download purely to see if the site improves but it hasn't. Not only are there slow downloads, but some stop half way through and then don't go any further.
I understand many get fast downloads, but I have seen reports on here from people who get very slow downloads too. It's all very strange. All I can say is I have never had any trouble like this before, at least not since I have been on broadband.
But I have to add, that if you do get reasonably fast downloads then the site is worth its admission price, although I am still not over enthusiastic about the quality of the DVD bit rate.
