I admit, I'm a porn hoarder.
I download dozens, sometimes hundreds of videos, before I even watch one. But this isn't a pornaholic anonymous meeting.
The problem I'm having, quite a few, I'm going to estimate 30% of the videos I'm downloading are not fully downloading. I don't know if the server is resetting or if I'm just downloading too many scenes at one time. I don't use a standalone download manager anymore and I just download 8 videos at a time through Firefox.
I chose 8 as the number since I download by model. Inside the model's page there are 8 videos per line, so it makes it easy to keep up with what I've downloaded and what I haven't.
Any ideas on why the scenes aren't fully downloading?
I've cursed Videobox 3.0 to hell. Then found some positives from it. Then cursed it back to hell. I was so frustrated the last time I was a member that I decided not to join it for awhile.
On my recent join though, everything seems to have improved.
Not only is the navigation not giving me any problems, they also are stacking up the HD DVDs with nearly 800 or roughly 4,000+ HD scenes. They also are offering quite a nice combo package of their extra channels. It was at sign-up, 5 channels for $50. That's a pretty big savings, but I still prefer to wait until a few weeks have passed then add then channels at prorated prices.
One last note on the Roku comment, I did receive the free Roku offer, but it was only when joining for 18 months.

It seems VB has now pushed the old site's link off the VB3 page, but if you don't clear your cookies, it could still be there. I don't know if maybe they did it because of people joining through the old site. If you joined through the old site you could add Evil Angel and Vivid channels for $10 each, making a membership to VB, Evil Angel channel and Vivid channel equal $32. Now when you join through VB3, Evil Angel is $15, Vivid is $15, so it's $42 instead of $32 to get that combination. But I had no option to go back to the old site after running CCleaner. I'm at the point where I would rank Videosz a little higher than VB after they took away the old site.
There are serious issues going on at VB. I canceled my account this morning after getting "404 file not found" on nearly everything I clicked. Wouldn't have joined if I knew they had done away with the option to return to the old site.
On the duplicated content, the only place I ran into a lot of overlap was on the biggest known stars. Like Eva Angelina, Jenaveve Jolie, the ones with 100+ scenes. If you search more by the DVD series than individual models, the overlap isn't bad at all and as my comment below about Tainster shows, Tainster's webmaster said they have an exclusive deal with Videosz to have their DVDs of their exclusive content. I'm going to do a multi-month membership this time just because I don't feel like I saw maybe 1/10th of what all they have.
I will post this to Monahan as well. Videosz has started getting some exclusive content. Though the webmaster of Tainster, I think, thought I was putting them down, Videosz has picked up, according to him, 25% of their 3,000 once exclusive scenes on DVDs and those are nearly all public/voyeur scenes. I felt more overwhelmed on Videosz than Videobox, but it could have just been from being away from Videosz for so long. And I think I probably know the video site you're talking about, American Vice. There have been quite a few DVD sites I've liked over the years that either dropped way off or shutdown, like Vixeo. Seems like when they first came out they had a 50% exclusive rate on their DVDs, but their webmaster was an ass and he jumped the price up from $9.95 or $14.95 to $34.95. The other that comes to mind was DVD Box, which had several exclusive deals with exclusive paysites to distribute some of their content, but they are now just releasing the bargain bin type DVDs.
I've always kept VB in my rotation of sites I join, but skipped them this last time and gave VideosZ a try. I can't say you would have the same experience, but I actually was happier with VideosZ than my last time at Videobox. Since I was going out of town, I canceled the VideosZ account early, but am now going right back and rejoining. Biggest difference I found was VideosZ has some content that I had thought was wholly exclusive to the sites they came from. Tainster, formerly Erromax, Orgymax, has around 200 DVDs on VideosZ of their sites Party Hardcore, Mad Sex Party and Drunk Sex Orgy. And it's not to take away from Videobox, if anything I will pair the two together from now on.
I too like some older porn, just not too old, but the 90s, especially late 90s that Vivid did so well. The channel is worth the price easily. I would even say the Vivid channel on VB is as good or better than the Vivid website. Also note that the price of it should be prorated. I think it's $15 if you add it on the first day of your VB membership, but if you wait until say the 15th day of your membership to VB to add Vivid, it should only be $7.50.
When you say an entire film do you mean an entire scene or entire DVD? I have complained about them not having a full DVD download link, but I don't think they ever will. Sadly, there was a DVD site, American Vice, that did allow full DVD downloads, but they disappeared a year or so ago.
I have been having the same problem messmer. I mainly use VB2 and it's not even showing up part of the time. Also having to download 5-6 files at one time to get a decent download speed.
I went to join Videobox a few days ago, going through the TBP link, I am seeing the $12 price slategrey mentioned, but when I went to pay there was no option to add Vivid and Evil Angel like before. So I tried it going straight to it and reverting to the "old site" there was the option of joining Vivid for $10 and Evil Angel for $10, which I had planned on joining both.
This is where I'm confused. Since I know the Kink channel is only available through the new format VB3, if you join through the old site, I know you can switch to VB3 during membership, but does it still allow you to add the VB3 only channels? Though I still prefer the old site, I think this confusion could be a sign that it's time to either revert back and stay back on the easier to use old site or go ahead and move forward with VB3 only.
Different options from one format to the other is just asking for this type of confusion. The other reason this is confusing is VB has sent me promo offers during active memberships that say, "Add Evil Angel for $15" or "Add Vivid for $15". If I join through the old site, I can add each of those for $10 each, from the beginning of the membership.
I'm not trying to sway you away from the RK channel, but it's very limited compared to the RK site. Using the TBP price, there isn't that much difference in the RK channel and the actual site. I know there has been some talk about RK's download limits, but believe me when I say they are not that bad. I have photos on imageshack of folders I downloaded a few months ago from RK. I did 5 days in a row, averaging 64 GB a day and didn't hit a limit once. I don't know if the limit is now on HD but I don't download their HD clips since they are long anyway, 30-45 minutes. A few years back, RK was pretty strict on DL limits, but they really have loosened up on them.
I have been intrigued by the Kink channel too. Though I don't really go for the harder content, I have always liked Ultimate Surrender, Public Disgrace and Fucking Machines. Plus I like anything with Dragon Lily in it and it seems like she is on several of their sites I haven't been on. Glad you mentioned that about prorating the price. I didn't know they did that. I may have to give the Kink channel a one week try the next time I join VB.
I wasn't too happy with my first glance at the new Videobox called VB3. After a few test runs on it, I actually like the new search engine in VB3 better than the one in the old version of VB.
The big difference you will notice in the search engine is that the old search engine had roughly 40 niche categories, where as the new VB3 search engine has 112. Just off of basic searches, clicking a niche, I've found quite a few DVDs I hadn't seen on VB before. Also, if you're taking it for a test run be sure to sign in. For whatever reason, if you're signed into the old version then click to go to VB3, it doesn't automatically sign you in. Once signed in, most of the clutter is reduced.
Where things get confusing is when you look at the top of the VB3 page, over to your right, a "channels" button. When you click this, you expect to see Evil Angel and Vivid, which I have subscriptions to both, but now there's two more channels.
Those two new channels are Kink.com and RealityKings.com, both of these are in my favorite site groups so I'm of course going to click on them. The Reality Kings one only has 90 some scenes and the Kink one only has 70 some scenes. Now the confusion really comes in. You can stream 4 videos from these sites, called previews, but it looks to be full scene streams. There also is a choice to download the scenes.
When I click download scene, a box pops up that asks if I want to subscribe to the channel. The Kink channel says they add 4 HD scenes per week. The Reality Kings channel says they add 1 new scene per day. It says my amount due to subscribe is $0 so I click subscribe and I receive a server error message. Most likely since my subscription has been canceled.
So, I'm wondering if anyone knows the prices that these are going to be to subscribe to? I'm not for sure the Reality Kings one interests me that much since I join it every 3 months anyway and RK is a network so I could get all these scenes with a Reality Kings subscription. On the other hand, Kink isn't a network and requires you to join multiple sites to see the different niches they have, so that one would have some interest from me.
I did a test join using another browser and neither are offered in the sign-up process like Vivid and Evil Angel are, so I'm guessing those are add-ons for members only. Anyone that has joined the Kink channel? I would like to see what the price is going to be.
Going back to this, now that my membership is over, I am glad I took the Vivid/Evil Angel add-ons and felt the content released on them was better, over the month, than the content released on VB. Though I didn't try it out, when I went to cancel, the way I read it, you can continue the Vivid/Evil Angel subscriptions for $17.95 for both and cancel VB.
Makes sense, though I didn't know Teen Models and Super Glam are owned by Silver Sinema.
After reading this, I looked back at the one video titled Super Glam Vol 1 and the first scene of it is on Teen Models. It's Black Angelica and three other models playing on go-karts and it's in the main section of Teen Models on Black Angelica's page, not the bonus Silver Sinema on Teen Models. The other ones I noticed had Sandra Shine in them, believe the Legal Skin Euro Series, these scenes look like either copies of her content on Super Glam or from the same shoot, different angle. Which Sandra is kind of hard to tell since she has looked almost identical for the last 5-6 years.
That's interesting and ironic though about Teen Models and Super Glam being owned by the same company. I loved Teen Models frequent updates, but the very reason I stopped going to Super Glam was their sporadic updates.
I was going through the Vivid channel since I seem to find more there that I like than even on the VB main site and noticed a whole collection of "40 inch plus" DVDs. These, from the best I can tell are from the Reality Kings site, "40 Inch Plus". This is not really a bad thing. They have, one scene, that stood out to me on the Vivid channel in this series, Eva Angelina in a garage with a bald guy and motorcycle. On RK, the scene is split into parts and doesn't have a full video option. On Vivid it is the full version. You'll also find plenty of Viv Thomas DVDs now on VB. I'm pretty sure there are some from the site Super Glam too. Yesterday's updates saw the release of Shane's World DVD #1 which is going into a major improvement of downloading these scenes from the Shane's World site.
Those Shane's World videos are often well-known porn stars early in their careers. The quality on VB, while not as good as I would like, is better than the quality on Shane's World. I'm somewhat surprised about just these findings since all of those sites listed above are/were "exclusive" sites. I think this practice, maybe 1 DVD per day from a previously exclusive site, would be a huge boost to VB since many of these, like Super Glam, were very poor video quality on their sites and at least get an upgrade in quality being released on DVDs to Videobox. There may be more of these, but these are the ones that I have noticed.
I like the extra channels, but I'm a huge fan of older Vivid DVDs back when April Flowers and Raylene were in their primes. It is a blend, mostly newer content, especially on Evil Angel. They throw some 90s/early 2000s Vivid in though. You get 3-4 Evil Angel per week, think the total available right now is around 330 DVDs from Evil Angel and you get 3-4 Vivid per week, usually every other day and Vivid has right around 300 full DVDs on there as of right now. I think if you've never joined the channels then it's worth the money especially since they've now combined the two channels into one price. It used to be Videobox $14.95, Vivid $17.95, Evil Angel $17.95, now it's just Videobox $14.95 + Vivid and Evil Angel $17.95.
Thanks Khan, it looks like they're sticking to the $17.95 price. That site paysite discount also had the $14.95 price and it doesn't work there either.
Read your newest comment about them allowing the deal to existing members. I think it's a good deal, but would have been a great deal if they kept the TBP price and only charged $14.95 for VB DVD and $14.95 for both premium channels. I haven't tried the Evil Angel premium channel yet, but have the Vivid one twice and really liked it, so I'll be joining in the next week to try both premiums out. I haven't ever had much success with VB's customer service. I sent them a message months ago to tell them the "warning" age box was not showing up right on my browser, so I couldn't even get in the site without using a different browser, never heard back from them, but the problem has been fixed.
Just thought I would update this. The price for Videobox is back to $14.95 with the TBP link. It doesn't change the Premium Channel price, but still, with both premium channels now available for $17.95, the total price is coming to $32.90 for VB + Vivid + Evil Angel.
I've tried running CCleaner, clearing all history in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Opera and cannot get the $14.95 TBP price.
Of note, they have now combined the two premium channels, Evil Angel and Vivid into one price for both. It changes depending on the resolution you choose from Videobox.
As example, if I went with the DVD resolution on Videobox the price shows up as $17.95.
To add BOTH Vivid and Evil Angel premium channels in DVD resolution is another $17.95. Used to be $17.95 each.
If I pick the lower resolution on Videobox the price is $9.95 per month and to add both Vivid and Evil Angel premium channels at the lower resolution is $9.95 for both.
I don't know if that's throwing the discount off or what is happening.
That is odd, it isn't coming up for me either. I'm getting the "problem loading page" message. Last time I was member, back in February, they had a couple of days of scheduled maint. Seems like it took about an hour.
I've become even happier with the Vivid premium channel as the membership goes on. I'm finding models I had forgotten about like Melissa Hill. The way I'm looking at it is I might join it once a year, maybe twice if an update stands out to me. So far, I've downloaded 27 GB from the Vivid channel, only 7 GB from Videobox, so it has been a good value for me. A lot of those 90s clips are in better quality here than I've ever seen them with standard DVD 640-720 high end resolution and bitrates in the 5000 range. A few still look a little dated, poor lighting/color, but I don't guess they can fix that since it is that way in the originals. Overall though, I expect to have around 50 GB just from the Vivid channel. You also don't see as much of the current nonsense in the hardcore clips, not much slapping, no spitting and probably less than half of the hardcore scenes end with facials. I'm not a fan of facials, so that was a plus too.
I decided to take the plunge and add the Vivid channel. Two reasons, Taylor Hayes classic scenes and Where the Boys Aren't #1. I consider #1 in the Where the Boys Aren't series to be one of the best lesbian DVDs I've seen. Taylor Hayes was one of the prettiest and dirtiest stars I remember from the 90s, early 2000s. Oh and they have around 20 scenes of Taylor so that combined with the lesbian DVD would be worth the extra $18.
Once inside the Vivid section, I found there are over 200 Vivid DVDs on it and am downloading to keep. Here are some surprising (to me) finds in those DVDs.
Kayden Kross - Beautiful solo model was how I knew her. She has 14 hardcore scenes on the Vivid channel.
Raylene (90s) - One of the greatest natural bodies in porn history, highly underrated, has 7 scenes.
Meggan Malone - I only knew of her work on ALS sites, she has 20 scenes on the channel, including hardcore.
Mimi Miyagi - 3 scenes, retired back around 2000, ran for Nevada governor in 2006. The scenes here show the 90s Mimi when she could put her stomach on the bed and her butt pointed nearly straight up in the air. Amazing back arch and bubble butt for a tiny Filipina model.
There are plenty more but those are the ones that have jumped out at me so far. I'm wondering why there isn't more Sky Lopez. I know she is all weird now, but she was one of the best Vivid girls. I remember having a lesbian clip between her and Raylene that required you to have 4 eyes to watch both of them at the same time. I can't say I will join the Vivid channel each time I join Videobox, but I will be keeping an eye on it. I wouldn't mind to see more of those late 90s Vivid DVDs make their way onto the channel.
I've had technical issues with VB as well. One thing you can try if you are streaming videos is to clear your cookies out. I would recommend CCleaner's software for that. I think they have had other problems with streaming as well. Doesn't seem like they've had that option for that long.
As far as the emails, I've been there with VB as well. I've sent probably 6-7 over the years and never received an answer to any of them. My guess is they have gotten too big for their own good. Not enough staff to give good customer support. I still rate the site high though. My problem comes when downloading videos, I will maybe 1 out of 10 videos that I try to download, get a screen that says something happened to the server and the system is notifying a backup server, "Try again later". Good luck with getting an answer, though you never know, posting here could bring an answer since the VB webmaster (Jeepster) has been active here at times.
The main thing I will say is if you find the models unattractive that VB has, you most likely shouldn't be planning on joining many other sites. They have one of the biggest collections of TOP models on the internet. Hard to possibly believe that you are that disappointed in the models' looks.
Also not for sure what you mean by the technical quality. If you download the DVD versions of their movies, the minimum resolution is 640x480 (standard view) or 720x480 (widescreen) with bitrates that vary between 3,500-7,000 kb/s. The industry standard for DVD resolution is 640-720x480 with bitrates between 3,000-10,000.
Either way, you mention that thagnut didn't put up an intelligent debate, you didn't put up anything to debate! Just a few mass generalizations to justify a 70 score with no examples. That is the main reason you're getting this much flak. If you truly believe it is a 70 and gave some really good points, even if just your opinion, I doubt you would have had as many negative replies.
