I suspect it's a mix of greed and desperation for them. They've had some other issues over the past year too. One of their more popular and prolific directors left. They've also started making some scenes from the DDF Network available and I suspect that may have undermined some of their credibility. I can imagine that someone who wasn't aware that these scenes were available on a traditional subscription-based site would be pissed to learn they spent expensive tickets to get a scene instead.
Another problem that crops up regularly is that their download speeds are often very slow. I might be willing to forgive that on a cheap site but LP is so expensive I'd like the buying experience to reflect that.
You've hit on this in your comment and others have mentioned it too on another forum: the number of models they hire (or are willing to work for them) seems to be down. You see the same models over and over again.
I really do hope that LP is able to pull this out of the tailspin they're in. Whether that means that I can afford to buy scenes again or not is irrelevant but I'd like to see them be successful. The scenes they offer are unlike anything else.
I wonder if a traditional subscription-based model would work for them? Well, it would. I don't think there is any doubt about that. Even if the subscription price was higher than normal (even $50 USD per month) and they never offered any discounts I think this would drive a lot of business their way. At $50 per month I wouldn't keep a recurring subscription but I could see joining three or four times per year. I realize that their business model is a bit different since the site is made up of different studios. But I think that’s how Evil Angel works and they’re able to be successful with a subscription model and still keep their directors happy.
(As an aside, I join the two Pierre Woodman sites – Woodman Casting X and Wake Up N Fuck – a few times per year and those are expensive and never offer discounts. But like LP these scenes are unique and I’m willing to spend the money to get access. I really think LP could make a subscription model work.)
I’ll look forward to reading your upcoming review. It’s been a year since I was a regular at LP so I’d like to hear a current and objective viewpoint.

I've done the math several times and the best value always comes out buying tickets. I'm aware that they have some form of subscription service now but I think it's quite limited. As I understand it, if you subscribe you subscribe to a specific studio and only have access to that one. Also, you only get access to the scenes that studio uploads during the month you have a membership.
If you dig around and find any new information please post it here. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in hearing if there is a true subscription to LP.

Interesting review. Thanks for sharing it. I had been a long-time LP buyer but it just got too expensive so I had to give it up a year or so ago. I was pleased to see they were offering a 'subscription' service now but then I learned it is quite limited. I'm guessing that LP can get away with this because for so long they were unique in the style of porn and the quality. I think LP has slipped in the past couple of years.

I’m re-reviewing LP because the site has changed quite a lot since I last reviewed it and my opinion of it has changed a bit too.
LP remains one of the most controversial mainstream porn sites. One reason for that is what it offers is much more extreme than what is offered on other mainstream sites. Another issue people react to is that the site mostly operates on a business model that doesn’t include the typical subscription for a month of access to everything.
The system that LP uses is a ‘ticket’ system whereby you create an account with them and then are required to purchase tickets that you can then trade for scenes. It is also possible to buy the scenes individually with a credit card but the costs for this are more expensive than tickets. The number of tickets required to gain access to scenes varies widely, usually from 2 to 6.
The biggest downside to the ticket system is that it can get very expensive. I spent approximately $50 per month on this site for three years and still didn’t get all the scenes I wanted. However, I didn’t mind doing this because LP offers a unique product.
It does appear that LP is now offering a form of subscription. You can now subscribe to any of the individual studios that make up LP. What you get for a ‘subscription’ is access to that one studio only AND only access to what that studio uploads for the 30 days you’ve subscribed. That’s a serious limit.
Up until several years ago LP required an attestation that your credit card was valid. This is no longer required and you can buy tickets immediately after signing up.
The site itself is made up of several different studios under the LP umbrella. While there are nuance differences between each of the studios they are much more alike than they are different. The scenes have always pushed the boundaries towards the extreme edges of mainstream and over the past few years it appears that they have pushed even further. Most scenes feature more than just a male and female talent. They can have many different combinations though scenes with one woman and multiple men are very frequent. Almost all of the LP scenes added over the last few years feature anal sex. Vaginal sex, if it appears in any scenes, is simply an ad-on or is part of a double penetration. The anal sex is hard and rough.
Also over the past several years there has been a significant increase in the number of double (DAP) and even triple anal scenes. DAP is now commonplace.
None of the scenes have any setup or plot. The sex starts almost immediately.
There has been an increase in the number of scenes featuring women being peed on but for some reason this is edited out for the American market. (Yay Canada!)
The models are overwhelmingly from Eastern Europe and Russia though the last few years has seen a few American models. There aren’t many American models who are known for being this extreme.
As rough as the scenes are I’ve never seen anything even bordering on non-consent. I’ve bought and downloaded hundreds of LP scenes and can only think of a handful where the model looks overwhelmed.
Up until recently everything at LP was exclusive. It now appears that they are offering some softer scenes but these appear to be licensed from DDF. Don’t download the scenes from LP unless you only want one or two. A DDF subscription is likely to be better value for most. (More recently there appears to be an increase in the non-exclusive scenes so caution is advised.)
Last year LP underwent a major shakeup and it appears the dust is still settling. Two directors, one of them being a long-serving LP director was fired. There was some speculation that with the departure of these two directors LP could not keep up its update schedule. This may be a cause for more non-exclusive scenes.
Download speeds are often fast but I find times when the speeds are very slow, almost to the point where it’s best to leave and come back later. This is unacceptable for a company that charges this much for their porn.
In my first LP review I commented that the site was confusing. The site hasn’t changed but I retract that comment as I now find the search function and tags to be easy to use and effective.
Videos are offered in multiple resolutions and two different file types. VGA videos are offered though my preference has always been the MP4 files. Those are available in 720p, 1080p and 4K.
The bottom line is that this site isn’t for everyone. The porn is very rough (but not BDSM), almost all anal and even more than a few circus acts. To make matters worse, their business model is unique and not customer-friendly. Downloading LP stuff can get very expensive quickly. On the other hand, LP offers a lot of unique porn that appeals to a narrow viewer but if you’re one of those who like this style of porn then you owe it to yourself to check it out. |

Thanks for mentioning that. Confusing memberships are a pain in the ass. I was thinking of trying the subscription to a studio but if I only get access to that studio's stuff for the past month than that's probably not worth it.
I was a regular ticket buyer for several years and yes, it can get expensive!

Coincidentally I'm writing a new review of the site but I'm happy to share what I have now.
It doesn't seem that you can buy a membership that gives you access to all the scenes as the most recent reviewer said. It does appear that you can buy a subscription to each individual studio and get access to download all of their stuff though. I don't know if it's limited to that month or not though. This could be an excellent deal for the right person but I'm guessing that it wouldn't work for most collectors like us. LP has 20 studios and I like all of them. I think it would be worse to see videos available that I couldn't access. And what if the studio you subscribed to only had a few scenes per month?
As it stands, I think we're in the same place as before: you really need to do your homework but in some cases (rare cases in my opinion) buying a single studio access may be the better value.
I'm still in the camp of not liking the ticket system but thinking it's the best choice for now.

Holy crap!!! I'm glad i read your review. Up until a couple of months ago I had kept a recurring charge for 50 tickets per month but even then I had to ration them. I gave it up because the cost was so high. But to now learn that they do have an subscription that likely changes things. I'm heading over there now to check it out.

Good point. I find that I need the instant gratification of buying and seeing a new scene once it is uploaded rather than wait for it to move to the free side of the site. I have close to 500 free tickets but I rarely even check out the free scenes because I have most of what I want and got it back when they were on the pay side of the wall. But, as you note, this can be an effective way to get LP scenes for people with self-control and patience.

Valid points. I'd likely sign on for that rate. The drawback for LP would be that many subscribers wouldn't keep recurring membership but would join occasionally to download the scenes posted since the last time they joined. But it would still be very profitable for them. And I agree that the ticket system probably prevents some people from 'joining' who would otherwise take a membership.

I suspect that they are already raking in huge amounts of cash with their current business model which gives them little incentive to change it. They also show no signs of any kind of decline that might otherwise cause them to try something new.
Bear with me while I make some completely uneducated assumptions.
The latest Charlotte Sartre scene is currently showing about 55,000 views. I highly doubt that means that so far 55,000 people have bought the scene. I suspect that number is how many people have accessed the page or watched the trailer. My biggest assumption is on the number of people who then buy the scene. Charlotte is a big-name American star so I’m guessing that a conservative estimate would be that 5% of people who access the scene buy it. That would mean so far that 2750 people have bought it at approximately $5.50USD for a total of just over $15,000USD. I suspect that amount probably has them in the black on the scene already. But remember that the scene just went online yesterday so it still has lots of legs in it. I plan to buy a copy but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Truthfully, I need to add some tickets to my monthly allotment before I can buy it. The Aidra Fox scene took the last of my tickets.
But look at another older scene that probably also generated a lot of interest – Samantha Rone’s first double anal that was uploaded in August 2016. That scene currently has views of 230,000. Again assuming that 5% of viewers buy it that means the scene (based on my uneducated assumptions) grossed approximately $63,000USD. (I had to assume a 5.5 ticket requirement because I bought the scene when it came out so I can’t see the ticket cost for it any longer.) Even if they paid Samantha properly for that scene they have definitely made a lot of money off of it.
I suspect that in choosing the two scenes that I have I am slanting things a bit because these scenes were probably bigger draws than many others. But it’s also possible that my assumption on uptake is low and maybe 10% of viewers buy the scenes. That doubles the gross for each of them.
Not to drag this out, but I think a good comparison is between Kink.com and LP. Kink is clearly in decline. They still produce some of the best BDSM porn available but it seems to me that it is a sign of decline that they can no longer sell memberships to individual sites but now bundle them as a network. If LP is generating the interest that they are then there is lots of life in their business model yet.
But like you, I definitely wish there was a one-price full access membership.

The problem for me is that LP is like the crack cocaine of the porn business. I first 'joined' LP maybe five years ago and it is easily still the biggest part of my monthly porn budget. Like you, the hard part becomes budgeting your monthly tickets to get the scenes you want. I'd say at least six months of the year I end up buying additional tickets just to get the scenes I want. I'm not complaining though - that would be me complaining that LP makes too much porn that I want to see!

I'm always interested to read what people think about Legal Porno. I've kept credits there pretty much constantly for the past few years because I like a lot of what they do. One thing that they seem to have more of these days are American stars.
I'm seeing an improvement in download speeds lately (though that could be temporary). The speeds are still slower than I get elsewhere but at least they're better now.
If you're interested in reading this, Alexa Nova posted a blog and she talks about her scenes with LP (all of which are amazing, BTW). It's a fascinating read with the most fascinating part being when Alexa talks about the economics of a scene. She specifically mentions her 5-on-1 scene (where she sticks a toy football up her ass) and notes that the scene got 189,000 views at the time. I don't know if this is true or not, but Alexa says that in order to be counted as a view the person must purchase it. So if the scene costs $5 USD per view then this scene generated revenues of almost $1 million so far. Who says there isn't still money in porn?

That's my experience too. I downloaded a few scenes today and while the download speeds have improved a bit they are still far lower than I'm used to seeing on other sites. If I wasn't such a fan of what LP puts out I'd quit them forever. But the fact that they make great porn keeps me coming back.
