I think you are basically right, that your expectation of "DVD" quality was just too high for what is mainly available on the Internet.
I've never watched a porn file I downloaded on a TV either.
My only experience is with PC monitors.
And Maggie and the other TBP reviewers have far more extensive experience with all kinds of porn than I will ever have.
But there is a wide variation in the bitrate and other quality factors in the porn videos you find on the Internet at different sites. There are some sites that have some extremely high quality videos, and the quality keeps going up as time goes on.
So one day, if we are still around, we will be able to watch these porn videos on our TV sets, when the quality becomes good enough. Lol.

The video files you don't like for their "low quality" are low quality as regards bitrate.
Whether you've been spoiled or whatever, it's wonderful to be able to watch a video and see it with good to great definition, which takes a higher bitrate than what is available on many older videos.
A lot of "DVD" quality videos are not really very good quality, especially if you want to watch them full-screen.
I don't like watching videos that are fuzzy or unclear. Most PU members don't either.
So welcome to the club (but I think you were already a member before I was). :)
Edit01: Watching a video in a smaller window makes the video appear clearer. The poor quality is not as noticeable.
The high bitrate videos you think are poor quality might have been remastered (?, not sure what the correct term is) from lower bitrate videos, without really improving the original video.
Someone like Toadsith is an expert in this area, and could give you a complete and accurate explanation of your problem.

Bitrate is a major factor in the quality of a video, although there are certainly other factors.

RealityKings advertises HD videos which are 720p or 1080p, but RealityKings videos are not HD. The videos are streaming "HD" videos 1024x576p. I though RealityKings had stop false advertising by releasing the recent videos in 1080p, but Realitykings stop releasing the new videos in 1080p HD. Thus, Realitykings is still false advertising. I give Realitykings a bad rating for misleading the members.
On the other hand, Bangbros was smart enough to advertise "shot in 1080p HD," and Bangbros provides 720p download option. Thus, Bangbros is not false advertising.

I have been a subscriber to Brazzers because Brazzers are they only adult network that has high quality 1080p, but now, that RealityKings have 1080p. I will switch to RealityKings, but I hope they will upgrade their older videos to 1080p.

1080p at 10 Mbit/sec is average size compare to Brazzers which has 1080pat 12 Mbit/sec. I am looking forward to 1080p at 10 Mbit/sec at RealityKings. I am tired of Brazzers. Brazzers has the best 1080p, but uses too many repetitive porn actress.

But again like a few other sites: The SIZE of some vids and sets - it's outrageous.. 4,2 Gb for one video......forget it! You can get the same viewing quality a LOT less...
BTW: Just downloaded the latest Mandy Dee (some 20 minuttes) video at 21 Sextury at about 800 Mb - GREAT, GREAT quality, so....

If sites are going under, I tend to think it's like the liquor store by us that went under just a few days before New Years Eve last year. Too much debt and too rosy plans that depended on ever increasing revenue! When the revenue stream slows down, over-exposed businesses go under.
To close a liquor store a few days before New years and haul the merchandise away in trucks is done by banks who have no common sense or creativity (a few days grace would have netted thousands in that case).
There is no incentive for a bank to try to make money by common sense, anyhow, when government handouts and no-interest money from the Fed are so much easier to take for your multi-million dollar bonuses.
Anyhow, porn will always sell, but the old model may well change in the age of so much availability. I tend to think very low cost individual videos (like one dollar each) well advertised and presented will eventually be the model rather than monthly subscriptions that rely on "updates" that consumers often find inadequate. Think how I-tunes individual sales have risen over albums as time has gone by (and make HUGE profits).
Remember, you don't have to press records or even make CD's now, much less pay for shipping and handling: customer downloads cost the web-master next to nothing. A low price will end up having us buy even more stuff. The temptation will be too great.
Just a thought.

There are 5 reality porn sites that I keep track of their updates. Reality King, Naughty America, bangbros, blacks on blondes and Brazzer but I'm a member of Brazzer so that last one is a giver. I've notice a serious decline in the quality of updates at most of these sites and in some ways even at Brazzer. It does not bode well for the immediate future of many porn sites when the big guys can't make enough money.

The recession which the Government claims is over is anything but over and the longer it last then the more we are going to see sites get affected by it.

I'm no longer a member messmer,(although I may come back soon, using my $9.95 link I hope you were able to take advantage of.).Although it does not surprise me at all. Reality Kings to me is the most corporatized of all of the big name North American sites. (Brazzers at least has a forum where complaints are voiced and moderators often give the company's side).
Nonetheless it doesn't bode well when you have so many big names struggling (relates to the forum thread about Scoreland). Then again for a site like Reality Kings it's probably that some girl just missed a shoot and they had to fill in an update from somewhere out of there ass.

Your tastes confuse me messmer, you say you prefer niche content, but didn't you have just have a brief subsciption to Bangbros and RK? If those sights aren't mainstream I don't know what is.
My strategy is to spend what I need to get my niche needs met first (hence subscriptions to Foot Fetish Daily, and 50 plus milfs) , and then supplement it with some of the mainstream stuff which can be found much less expensive. For instance I have links for Brazzers, Bangbros and RK each for $9.95, and tend to rotate which ones I subscribe to (Brazzers is constant though). Videobox is my only yearly subscription mainly for the volume it gives access to.
I agree with you that I prefer my niche stuff to mainstream any day, but for me alot of the mainstream stuff is damn good, plus there are many strains of what you might call mainstream. I think you find that when you go only niche, that there are a ton of videos you see on the net that you wish you could download, and I'd say 85-90% of the DVD type content makes it's way to sites like videobox and/or videoz at some point or another.
I take it then that you subscribe to 21sextury for Lusty Grannies, I'm sure you've already thought of this, but wouldn't your money be better spent at a site like Mature.nl? (if it isn't already).

Yes and no, for 99% of sites I agree but sites like this one and Video Box I think are worth it for a year just based on sheer volume. It's like a good fallback site to have in your back pocket.
In fact I actually don't think these sites because of their nature (updating like once every few hours with a new DVD) would really make sense as a monthly subscription.
Now I would say it only makes sense to have one like this, personally I subscribe to Videobox yearly and will probably re-up next year. Too much bang for your buck.
This would make a good thread for the forum
