Has anyone started a porn site before?

Has anyone here ever started a porn site before? And by "porn site", I really mean anything from a site with your own made content, to a "fan site", to even something like nngalleries.com (third-party content)..

And if so, did you have much luck?

I think obsessedwithmyself.com is an interesting concept, and thought it would be fun to try something like it. Not really to make a ton of money, more because collecting/accepting pics of hot naked girls is just fun.

Doing it for fun is viable, so long as you can cover the hosting costs etc. Just make sure you have to rights to post any photos before you post them. If you live in the US there are a mass of other regulations you may have to comply with - probably best to get legal help with that one.

I would never recommend running a porn site because you want to make a "ton of money". It's just as hard to make money in porn as any other market and the competition is ferocious. The only wise reason to run a porn site is because you enjoy it. If you can make a profit from it too then that's a nice bonus.

I'm convinced that although the technology is more accessible now than it was 6-8 years ago, I think it's much harder to start now as there is a lot more regulation and the market is much more experienced and focused than it was back then. Basically a lot of the competition are much more professional. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

Actually, Wittyguy.. I'm well aware of the 2257 compliance laws, so much in fact that it's really the only reason I wouldn't want to start an adult website. The legal ramifications associated with it are likely not worth it..

Although, I will say, your post is really the response I was looking for. Discouragement, that is. Money isn't really an issue with me, and I've designed and build websites akin to that of Amazon. It's the lawyers, and all the 2257 crap that get in the way.

bummer.

Not to add to the already heaping pile of discouragement, but all of my favorite sites are well established sites that have been around since the early 2000s or even mid '90s. The economy, not to mention the political realities, have changed drastically since the 'net first started back whenever Al Gore invented it. And not to get too personal but I can't think of any successful porn sites (or any porn sites period) that are from Texas or even a nearby state.

If I was starting a porn site (mothers lock up your daughters-- turboshaft is looking for a few good women!) and I had all the money, resources, friends, enemies, contacts, absolutely everything to at least guarantee I have a business if not necessarily a successful one, I would still be very scared of being locked up or summoned to court. I don't have a very positive opinion of our criminal justice system to begin with so I don't expect it to treat porn makers with a lot of fairness or respect. The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate and the most number of prisoners in the entire world, and it's not because we have a crime ridden populace but because we are obsessed with criminalizing so much harmless, victimless activity, including people fucking or showing off their hoo-hahs in front of a camera.

Plenty of Americans love to talk about how this is the greatest/freest/whatever country on earth but the reality is when it comes to porn you gotta watch your ass, or at least the ass of whomever you are shooting. I am not even talking about age discrepancies which could basically blacklist you from shooting naughty pictures, but the ominous charge of 'obscenity.' Just ask Larry Flynt, Seymore Butts, John Stagliano, and of course ol' Max Hardcore how much fun they have had in the business. Flynt, Butts, and Stagliano are still in the business and all four have had considerable success but I am sure there are plenty of others who would not have had the stomach to go through the legal purgatory they endured courtesy of the various levels of the justice system.

How about a blog? I've heard those are always nice. :) "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. I think it would a lot of fun to make porn just as long as I am not the owner of a company because owners seem to be the ones who are always to blame. It's kind of like the military where there's a chain of command so you can pass on the buck. I think owning a company would be a ton of fun too (and I would assume the final say on model standards) but I would stay awake at nights worrying some government agency was planning to run a sting operation on me--and I need my sleep especially if I am going to make world class filth! ; ) "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Another problem is how do you report your income to the IRS without embarrassing yourself? How do you tell your tax preparer without getting a funny look?

Yes I have,
I have worked hard at promoting myself.
I now get nearly 2,000,000 visitors per month.

I started it because I actually enjoy what I am doing. I have always enjoyed an alternative lifestyle but never shared this fact.

I became involved in adult films when I hired out my house to a production company shooting for Playboy. I watched from my balcony, as Kieran Lee fucked a girl over my Bechstein Grand. My hand drifted down to my pussy and as I slowly wanked myself I realised that I was bitten by the Porn bug. I set to work creating this site and launched it in May 2009.

If I can provide any help advice to anyone, please let me know.

There seems to be a discrepancy between your figure and theirs. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Obviously Raging Budd you know more than me.. you interpret those figures for me into hits.

I run google stats which tracks every hit not taking an algorithm ... but hey if its so important to you...last month was 1,800,000 but what are you trying to prove?

I really dont know what your problem is....

My problem is that I like the witch hunts, I guess. Whenever we have a situation like this, where glowing reviews for relatively obscure sites suddenly appear, I go into super cynic mode. If I misinterpreted what I saw and saw it as a discrepancy, I apologize. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Miss Hybrid is a wonderful women with a very kind heart.
I think sometimes people judge them for what they do and not for who they are.
It breaks my heart to get an email from Miss Hybrid all upset and hurt over this.
try getting to know her and her fans before you pass judgement and if your IQ isnt big enough to do so then just keep your opinions to yourself and to be so rude to her

Comparing this site to a porn site is an apples and oranges comparison and has no bearing on the prominence of your site on the porn scene. However presumptuous it might have been, I used the term relatively obscure based on my constant search for new sites. I'm a member of quite a few forums, including this one, and have never seen a reference to yours before the reviews suddenly popped up. I don't think anyone here thinks that PornUsers is widely known. If it was, we'd have a lot more active members. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

But it's okay to question someone's intelligence because their opinion doesn't match yours?

If anyone is experiencing emotional pain over something said over the Internet, I would suggest finding either the Off button to the computer or professional counseling.

Maybe I'm wrong again, but the fact that we now suddenly have 3 new members, all gushing over Miss Hybrid, makes me think something definitely isn't kosher here. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity. Edited on Mar 21, 2010, 02:20pm

Opinions are like assholes everyone has one and they usually smell.
I am fam of Miss Hybrid but i also consider myself a friend i have sat down and talked to her before and it fires me up to hear some asshole on here is making her upset.
Looks like i found that guy . i dont know how you were rasied but have you heard of manners and heard how to treat a lady.

i dont care about this site i dont care if you do or dont like Miss Hybrids site what i do care about is being told she is being attacked and is upset and ask for help so how about we just drop this and you apologize to the nice lady

Errr, maybe the fact that you have people defending her means that there is in fact something in what they are saying! She and her site have recently come to the fore because of her interaction with members of the FreeOnes forums during and after her time as a contestant in the Miss FreeOnes competition. No surprise, therefore, that a number of people start to talk about her at once.

There is nothing to apologize for that I haven't already. Fine - you don't care about this site. I do. This all started because of a question of the integrity of a couple of reviews and I take any hint of impropriety personally enough to debate the issue. I'm here, instead of other review sites, because, for the most part, the reviews are believable and fair. If she wants to call it an attack, I can't help that. If she's upset over it, I can't help that. If you want to call me an asshole because of it, I can't help that either. But you're right about one thing - your opinion smells just as bad as what you've charged me with. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

RagingBS,

What are you actually afraid of?? That one small but popular site gets a couple of reviews from people who like the site!! It doesn't seem to fit in with your perception of how your tiny insignificant corner of the web should be, so you attack....IT IS ONE SITE run by one woman, with a photographer , not a multi million dollar site run by some big studio in the US. Get over yourself! Maybe thats your problem...your life revolves around watching porn and feeling the need to criticise it. If you have nothing good to say, then shut up. Your paranoid criticism helps no one and inflames many.
I have followed Miss Hybrids progress almost since the beginning. I saw her fantastic performance on the MissFreeones competition (hey, it's free, maybe you should try it!) where having been invited to enter (SOMEONE HAD HEARD OF HER....SHOCK!!!!) she literally blew away all but the most famous of the competition. She gained massive popularity and adulation from all the members, and many of her competition too.
If you've kept yourself buried under a rock for the last few months, thats your problem, but don't go on the offensive at the first opportunity.....get your intel first, there are no WMDs here, so back off.
Yes, I posted a review of Miss Hybrid's site, and unfortunately, as it goes with my education, I constructed sentences, as is the proper usage of the English language. Bullet points are for those with a short attention span or learning difficulties.
People are no longer hung, drawn and quartered (look it up, it predates what you laughingly call history)for expressing an opinion or belief.
Now, crawl back into your cave and let the matter rest. PU...a centre of excellence for self important paranoid conspiracy theorists

1Bestboy -

If anyone's being "attacked", it's me. You and TheBear have both resorted to name calling, and you are making assumptions about my personal life. You can bring all the people you want in here to continue the barrage of insults - I don't mind at all. All I care about is, again, maintaining the integrity of this site.

I thought the matter of the structure of your review was settled. I do see that you revised yours a bit to include something more akin to what we look for on here, so thank you for that. If bullet points are a sign of a learning disability, there sure are a bunch of dim-witted people in here. Then again, if you'd taken the time to see that we have a character limit to deal with, you might've figured out that putting up a lot of useful information makes the use of complete sentences impractical, if not impossible.

You want to put it to rest? Stop flaming. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Look him or her straight in the eyes and say "I pay my taxes like every other honest American out there. If you have a problem with the business on which I pay those taxes I'll find another tax preparer."

I don't think pornographers' biggest concern is embarrassment, or even the tax preparers, unless the preparers were bad at their jobs and got them in trouble with the IRS.

I am not one to easily put my trust in the government when it comes to porn so I would be a lot more worried that the FBI or some other non-tax agency was poring over every letter and digit of your records looking for the tiniest of errors in order to put you out of business or at least haul you into court for a while. Challenging porn on 'obscenity' grounds is a real bitch with the 1st Amendment getting in the way of most prudes' paths to modern day puritanism, so getting a business or individual on tax or commerce laws is a lot more realistic and practical. As far as I would be concerned, the IRS is not my mommy, so I wouldn't really give a rat's ass what they think. And as far as telling my tax preparer, I would just find a male accountant. Who knows, there's a good chance he may have already visited my site.

gone a little ot for a sec lol, anyway, the obsessed site I've joined one very similar to before and it was very bare and the stuff inside was poor (probably stolen from some free site). I think they are a gimmick, the only real sites that work imho with customer content are sites that offer something back for it or are built round some kind of community (ie redclouds). Otherwise you'll find more amateur stuff on a free site. I do recall when I got a cellphone a few years back they had a mobile site where people could post their vids/pics and get paid i think it was like a few cents per view. I think viewers brought credit or something, that website had a lot of good unique content(though low quality) especially as people recorded stuff on there cell and posted it straight away

As for starting my own site, no.

I personally think the best/easiest way for a guy to start his own site would be to hire some girls and film some stuff with a unique twist, then set a fairly lowprice point while you build up, if the previews are good it'll hook people in (they do to me lol). just my thoughts

So, getting back to the question, I have started one. If you would like any information or advice / help let me know.

Depending on your previous knowledge it is a steep learning curve.

It is now working well and it so nice to do something that you always wanted to and that enjoy, well most of the time!

Now in this economy ???
I would say stay clear.

There is way to much to consider, and just like selling guns you have possible issues with new laws that may come into effect.

I know you researched the law, I would be researching new laws that might pass trying to be passed that could affect the way online porn operates.

The new laws would not affect a person to own a porn business, but would affect how bandwidth is sold to their server suppliers for adult access for to the internet.
( for access dl etc)
What this means is places like AT&T may not be able to sell bandwidth or may be required to block a server that has porn on it. The problem is most porn sites lease, and do not own their own server warehouse. So you are at the whim of the telecommunication laws and soon the FCC if they have their way.

Its something to look for before putting life saving into a business that may be regulated out of business some day. Since 2007

If you have a plan and are prepared to see it through, to take the criticism, sometimes totally unjustified, I would have a go.

I gave up a career. I am a qualified micro biologist, pharmacologist, and mechanical engineer. I love friction loss in pipes, its my favorite.

This has been the best thing ever.Sure you get a few knocks but if you do what you love and adore, it sets you apart from the ones playing at it and doing it just for the money.

I will help you if I can as we discussed.

You need an angle though. 3 cocks up one hole, as gymnastic as that may be, is boring, if that's all it is.

There are only so many pizza boys after all

You know where I am if you want help x
