I still can't believe they see this site as explicit, since, at least as far as I know, they shoot girl-only content -- which technically isn't even hardcore -- and it is not exactly "hard" girl-girl or solo girl content at that.

As I remember this was a pretty limited time offer, and I don't think I could get it once I had cancelled my ALSScan membership even with time left on my subscription. Try asking more current members if they know of this discount or anything similar.
I'm not sure 100 would be appropriate for any site, but if you can fit your viewing habits into ALS' particular niche and how they capture it then why not go all the way? I just know that since giving it a score of 97 way back when that I've grown bored over their approach and really disappointed over their use of boy-girl content, no matter how limited.

I sort of knew the answer anyway as I think Alex had mentioned on ALS' blog that they wouldn't allow members to actually choose the models. I think we've also discussed it here in the reviews or in the forum somewhere that ALS doesn't do this, and basically no site lets its members make hiring decisions.
The only "voting" that goes on is in e-mail correspondence, and possibly sites like this as well, where a model is popular enough to come back for a second shoot. Of course, in ALS' case they can all come back!
Great review Messmer! It can be a very hefty site in terms of disk space, not to mention the hours spent ogling the videos and pics. They have also been one of the fastest downloading sites I have ever subscribed to...so you can spend more time watching instead of waiting.

Messmer, I couldn't remember from when I was a member but do they allow member voting for these mass auditions, or is it just BTS long after the audition?
It'd be pretty cool if they allowed a democratic audition selection but I bet the webmasters would have some serious disagreements. Hell, they've been selecting ALS-approved models for well over a decade I'm sure they have a more finely tuned wow-factor meter. ; - )
I'm not a fan of public nudity--I feel it's too Jackassesque to be erotic--but it is there, even if not as the main attraction, which is shaved ladies in privates places showing off their private places. ;-) Anyway, they generally seem to relegate the public nudity to bonus scenes, with a half hour or more (sometimes up to an hour) of video, with at least a hundred photos, again usually more, which I guess if you like public nudity are pretty good bonuses. I think the majority of the these full public nudity scenes are from Eastern Europe since doing it in the U.S. would be a crime against humanity or something, but they do occasional flashing in their American outdoor shoots, but not full-on public nudity for the entire scene.
They also have their annual Caribbean trip where they devote a day to going to the beach and shooting the girls pretty freely, that is on a nude public beach, with a lot of photos and video. I like these a little more than the traditional public nudity because they can be more exciting and open.

Though it has been two years since I last reviewed them, over a year since I was a 'regular' member (I rejoined for the first time in a long while last month), and my newer score is lower than before. I miss the way they were a few years ago but I think they still kick ass for dude-free material.
That hardcore scene was a bonus of another site's content caught behind the scenes by ALS--not exactly there regular material by any means, and not even theirs really. I didn't like that idea at all, but it was irregular material so I didn't make much of it.
Maybe I should blame Tanner Mayes since she's in both your examples...though I am sure if I had been the cameraman she would've been asking for a plane ticket home not if I wanted to play 'never-never land.' : - (
While I haven't seen the video yet (they haven't released it) I think Alex is just hyping his language up a little. If you're used to his writing, mostly in his blog, he is in love with hyperbole like most other adult webmasters out--hell, everyone on the Net--and you can't take him at his exact word. 'Ram' probably doesn't mean Max Hardcore is making a conjugal visit or that it's that violent of a scene, it's just Alex's way of getting members to keep on clickin'.
I think he was also trying to emphasize they weren't suddenly doing facial or an all out hardcore scene, just a BJ for now. Members are probably thrown off plenty with a guy entering the scene they don't need him shooting off his fireworks all over the place. Plus I'm sure there are more than enough body fluids to clean up with just one female model! :-0
Well this is really new territory for ALS--just read the first two responses to my comment--hardcore has never been their thing. At all. For longtime members this is like throwing out the Bill of Rights because it goes against what the site has been traditionally doing for years.
And I haven't even gotten a chance for her to become my girlfriend yet! : ( I guess I'll wait and see the video to make my final judgment, but I'm not too happy about this experimenting they're doing. Amy Brooke sounds like a genuinely crazy horny girl--not the shy first-timer type--so it probably wasn't too hard to get her to do a BJ scene. At least Alex claims she did lots of anal and squirting.
I just joined a few days ago and they do have quite a bit of old-but-new-to-you releases (previously unreleased) as well as some so-so remasters. I like the video remasters because it seems in the past ('90s through early 2000s) they weren't as concerned about video releases as they are now and a lot of this stuff just didn't make it to the site or wasn't archived for long periods like they do now (which go back to April 2007).
The photo remasters are really nothing special in my book; much bigger sizes but a lot of them are from when ALS was shooting on film and they just don't digitize as well as pictures originally shot digitally (sounds obvious, but some film can look great even when it's been scanned). I assume these are from negatives or slides or something similar but the colors look too dark and deep and the film grain is obvious in the higher resolution photos. I don't think they are really worth all the trouble unless you have a real boner for a model from years ago.
Also, a note about their video download options, much like a recent thread, there doesn't seem to be any noticeable difference between quality in older ones. For example a recent Brea release shot in the mid-2000s; it was shot in SD and the download options are either a 640x480 DivX or a 720x540 WMV. It's a short four minute video of her, well, let's say making a very good excuse to clean the bathroom floor. ; ) Anyway the WMV is slightly bigger in resolution but the file size is 16MB smaller and I can't see any difference in quality.
Their HD releases however are offered in three options of two sizes; 1280x720 in MP4 and DivX plus massive 1920x1080 WMVs that are around twice the file size of the DivXs and MP4s, and the qualitative difference is noticeable here (as are the gargantuan space requirements).
They are shooting some super hot new models, but it's still fun to look at previous models without having to take up vast swaths of hard drive space with half hour bonus videos.
Clearly Alex knows this is new ground for ALS and thus the "fair warning" comment. As much as I don't want to see boy-girl shit on their site they make it up with the no more lollipop promise. Hooray! They have left the candy store! No more lollipops for 2010 (though the sex toy stores will still get their business apparently). I wonder if any other site would have the guts to say goodbye to their lollipop fetishes. I sort of liked the strap-on scenes ALS did so I don't care too much whether they keep them or not, but I always hated the damn lollipops so this is good news.
I just saw this the other day when I was checking around their tour pages. I was thinking of rejoining but now I don't know--I find all this BTS shit to get irritating, plus the last thing I want to see on ALS is boy-girl material. I always trusted them to be reliably boner-free, but now I have to look somewhere else.
Did Alex say anything in his blog about why they are putting this on their site? On the preview page for the release they said "Trust me, you don't want to miss this one of a kind treat!" but I bet there are more than a few members who could care less. It seems that by now they would have more than enough of their own material to not have any reason to post this stuff from a Club Sandy shoot.
Yes, great review! I am glad you are enjoying the site, hopefully based on some of my responses to your inquiries a few weeks back. :) I usually hate proselytizing, but I make a serious exception for ALS (okay, and most porn, but I prioritize my preaching for ALS!).
One of your cons mentioned one of my peeves -- voting. Goddamnit, a porn site should not be a democracy! It needs to be run by a qualified perverted tyrant who will just go ahead and release everything, and in order. But seriously, I remember some models, even ones from the last few years, with very little content due simply to not having the votes. I don't want to sound like Norm Coleman, but can we have recount? Just so we can see their material, please?
They do have some of the best photography and videography out there, at least in terms of using good equipment and proper setup, and then choosing models that will not require excessive Photoshopping. I wish other sites would take a hint, and try making their photography and models look a little more real, but they'll probably never learn.
Well, as far as extreme spreading goes, it really depends on the model, but yes, generally they do it with fingers, not just toys and "devices". I would say about 90 to 95% of models use a speculum, and a few just choose not to, but the vast majority of them do use it in at least one scene. They all use toys (who doesn't?) and fingers, though I would say toys and other insertables get the maximum effect for the "quick pullout" shots they like to get, that is, where they get a temporary gape. :) And they love fisting, though that seemed to be tapering off slightly when I was last a member (December '08), but there is still plenty of it there.
As far as ALS Scan vs ALS Angels goes, yes, it is pretty much petite (regular ALS) vs thick and busty (Angels), but it is a subtle difference unless you are into breasts. Older models -- say, from 1990s through early 2000s -- with big breasts (C and up) are on ALS, but after that, they are primarily all on Angels. A few of these Angels girls made it to the regular site for some girl-girl shoots and an occasional Caribbean trip -- like Carli did for their 2007 Caribbean trip -- but they stay mostly on ALS Angels.
If you haven't been a member of either, and big breasts, or lack thereof, aren't a big deal, then I would recommend ALS Scan first. Yes, it is five dollars more, but there is so much more content there, due to archiving that goes way back, plus most of their content goes there, so they have more regular updates.
I hope this helps, but I haven't been a member in seventh months :( so maybe starting a comment and asking for a second opinion would give you a better idea, as I am sure some of our regulars are current members.
I agree with you here, even if "chaotic" is not the right word; maybe "non sequential" is a better term.
I would like them to at least once -- just once is all I ask -- select a new model, without previewing her to members, and release all of her material, and in order. And all of it would be released within a short time period, say a month, no ifs, ands, or buts. Then, since everything seems to be based on what members say, see if this even popular, or if they should just stick with the current system.
Personally, it is one of my pet peeves concerning the site. I know I didn't mention in my review a year ago, but I did when I reveiwed ALS Angels, where they do the exact same thing. I just know there is more material out there, because the webmasters say there is, and some models have little content posted, but I also know all of it won't necessarily get released anytime soon, if ever. I understand they want to please the majority of members, and therefore what and who wins the most votes will see the light of day, or members' area of the site (no wonder I hate democracies...), but it's got to be irritating if you always vote for models/scenes that don't make the cut, so to speak.
I am afraid I am part of that 1% (if even that) that you mentioned, so don't worry, you're not alone here. I also miss their somewhat harder stuff, rather than the focus on glamor and tease, among other things.

Sounds like another great Caribbean trip as always, though who exactly did they bring along? All those models you listed have been there for a while -- at least a year it seems -- and I was curious if they brought any new girls for the trip.
