Great review. I have no idea why, but I'm probably the only PU member who has never joined this network. That's strange since it seems to be anal-oriented. It's always on my list but has never made it to the top. I think the confusing membership they used to have was my reason a while ago, but that's been fixed hasn't it?

With a current membership to Assylum, I figured it was a good idea to update my last review.
Assylum hasn’t really changed since it began in 2014. It is like it was born fully formed and has stayed true to itself since then. The most recent scene uploaded is really not distinguishable from the first scenes on the site, and this is a good thing. From its very beginning, Assylum has been like nothing else I’ve seen on the Internet. The level of creativity that goes into each scene is utterly astounding. Each scene is unique and can easily stand on its own in its creativity. The only commonality shared between the scenes is the underlying plot that each of the models is here at this Assylum to be cured of her sexual depravity. Spoiler alert – she’s come to the wrong place! Here, her depravity will be turned up to 11.
It’s best if I step back for a moment just in case there is a reader who doesn’t know what Assylum is. Assylum is a BDSM website that was begun by the creative mind and talent behind it who goes by the stage name Dr. Mercies. The good doctor has had a few assistants over the years but he mostly operates alone. I used to watch a lot of BDSM scenes but I stopped because I found so many of them were repetitive. This is not a concern I’ve ever had when watching Assylum scenes. Here, the scenes use all manner of restraint, including suspension. The S&M can be intense. The sex is always rough and always (and only) anal. The “patients” are often choked, peed on and in and go through various anal insertions. On top of this, they are often dressed or is equipped in a degrading manner. For example, in one scene the model is on all-fours with wheels on her hands and knees and a steering wheel tied to her back. The good doctor “drives” her around while anally screwing her. I’m reasonably confident that no one else has ever done something like this before.
The site has continued to grow and now has 241 scenes. A new scene is added each month. While some will prefer more frequent updates, I can assure readers that the level of creativity that goes into each of the scenes more than makes up for it.
It should be noted that a small number of the scenes are interviews with the models or BTS scenes. In a handful of cases these are “Director’s cuts” of earlier scenes. I didn’t subtract these from the overall scene count because, in my opinion, they are well worth watching. I found it interesting to watch the interviews to learn what was going on in a model’s head during what had to be a very difficult shoot. As for the Director’s cuts, these are often of some of the most extreme scenes on the site and they bring added footage and added depravity.
An advantage that Assylum seems to have had from the very beginning is its ability to bring in mainstream talent. Many other extreme BDSM sites only have fetish models. I’ve seen models here with multiple scenes, and extreme scenes at that, that I would never have expected. But there is a new crop of mainstream porn models, Rebel Rhyder and Charlotte Sartre are good examples, who are also known for their anal prowess and kink. Both of these women have multiple scenes here.
The basic subscription price includes downloads and streaming videos with 480p, 720p or 1280p resolutions. A Premium membership is required to download the 4K videos and that’s $10 more per month.
Good news is that if you are a member at one of these related sites, you get a discount at the others.
A negative that I have commented on in every review is that the download speeds can be quite slow. The speeds here are about 25% of what I see at most other adult sites. This isn’t a deal-breaker because the downloads still work and I like what the site has to offer.
Apart from the minor issue of slow download speeds, I think the only negative here would be that the site is so extreme that it isn’t for people who simply want to dip their toe in the BDSM niche. There are plenty of sites that cater to lighter BDSM. Assylum is an adult portion. However, for those who like to watch extreme BDSM, you can’t do better than Assylum.
An advantage that Assylum offers prospective members is that they have lengthy trailers for each of their scenes. I highly recommend that any prospective member watch some of those to decide whether a membership here is really for you.
If you do decide to join, joining through TBP/PU will give you a discount.
The bottom line for me is that for prospective members who like this kind of extreme BDSM, you aren’t going to find anything else like this. If you like extreme BDSM but find it gets too repetitive then you need to check out Assylum.

This is going to bug me until I can figure it out. I went through my Assylum collection and sorted by the date and skimmed through all of the scenes I downloaded in October when I last had a membership there and I can't find this scene. I know it was available and I know I downloaded it. I remember specifically that it was flagged as a preview for a new site in the Assylum/Slave Mouth family. I remember specifically that it was with Dr. Mercies and the scene was shot outdoors and in a barn.
Getting old is a pain in the ass!
It doesn't bother me that I can't find it on the site - maybe they changed their mind about starting a third site - but it bugs me that I can't find it in my collection.
I'll keep looking and if I find it I'll mention it here.

I'm not due for a re-subscription for a while yet but your description of the Rebel Rhyder gangbang has caused me to rethink this. I've watched the trailer several times. It looks like an intense scene.
The last time I was a member there, maybe three months ago, there was a preview scene for what was a proposed new site. It was more pure BDSM and less of the circus acts of the other scenes. This scene was shot outdoors. Dr. Mercies was the male talent but I forget who the female talent was. I downloaded the scene and I'm looking for it but I have almost 200 Assylum scenes in my collection so it might be hard to find. I checked the site and don't see it there now. Do you recall seeing such a scene?
If I find it in my collection I'll post the scene title here. It's odd that it may have been removed, It certainly wasn't nearly as extreme as some of the other scenes.

An advantage to PU is that others can read both interpretations and make a better decision on joining for themselves.
Yes, there is a Slavemouth discount offered once you're a member of Assylum. It's $19.95 for the standard membership and $27.95 for the premium membership which offers 4K downloads. Discount or not I'm definitely rejoining Slavemouth too.

My first review of Assylum was almost four years ago and there have been some key improvements, mostly almost four years of added scenes. Two criticisms I had of the site back then was that it was small and the relatively high price meant it wasnt a great value for the size of the site. The size of the site is definitely nothing to criticize now, with 163 unique scenes. There are also six interviews and BTS scenes and two Directors Cuts of a couple of classics. The site continues to update with the addition of one new scene per week. And to make the site a better value there is now a TBP/PU discount.
The other main difference between my first review and this one is that the original premise of a model showing up at the Assylum for therapy for some sexual perversion is mostly unused now. A message on the site from November 2017 notes that while the site wont give up completely on therapy they are going for more authentic domination and submission. Honestly, I dont see much of a difference and I dont mean that in a bad way. The scenes are still zany, over the top and unlike anything else Ive ever seen on the internet.
Being a BDSM site the scenes all have that as a theme and given the name of the site almost all of the sex is anal. Apart from anal sex there is a lot of anal play with insertions. Many of the scenes have some bondage. Watersports are frequent and f-on-m rimming is almost universal.
In his well-written and more recent review than my original one, mbaya takes a more negative view of some of what goes on in the scenes. His review is well worth reading too. Its just that mbaya sees a lot of the zaniness in a negative way where I see it in more of a positive way. (Like Olivia Kassidy in a cheerleader outfit with a piss enema being held in her ass by a butt plug and made to jump up and down while reciting degrading cheers. Well thats porn gold! No pun intended there)
The physical appearance of the models is something that mbaya and I also diverge on but he is definitely accurate when he notes the number of tattooed models. I suspect thats an occupational hazard in this porn niche. I find that a majority of the models are very attractive. I think that it is a credit to the site that they are able to attract so many A-list and beautiful models. Surely that has to say something about what goes on behind the scenes that the women feel safe and in control. Its also telling that some of the models have multiple scenes too. (Not counting the scenes theyve done for Assylums sister-site Slave Mouth.)
The main male talent (and site owner) seems to attract some negative attention. I dont share those thoughts. Sure, hes an average guy and he wears a mask in every scene but I dont find that detracts from the scenes at all. If anything, his average looks and mask add to the power imbalance that can be so hot in a BDSM scene.
The production values in the scenes are great: the lighting, sound, camera work and editing are all top-tier.
The scenes are available in three or four resolutions depending on your membership. 852x480 (700kb/s), 1280x720 (1800) and 1920x1280 (6500). 4K resolution is available if you pay for a premium membership. Some may criticize the site for charging more for 4K but I see it as the opposite. I dont need 4K and appreciate that I can pay a lower fee to avoid it.
The site supports download managers for queuing scenes. It also seems to support multiple simultaneous downloads. If the site once had a daily limit it either doesnt now or that limit is high. I downloaded a lot on my first day back and didnt hit a limit.
If the site has a flaw its download speeds. Ive noticed this in all the times Ive joined. I normally see 40+MB/sec on sites but this site seems to be capped at 4. Given that some of the file sizes are large (these are long scenes) it would take a long time to download a 4K file.
The only other criticism of this site must be obvious: it is most assuredly NOT for everyone. This is extreme BDSM with some sexual and non-sexual acts that would offend a lot of people. If youre a porn collector and prefer softer stuff this is not the site to dip your toe into the BDSM world. This site is authentic, hard and unique. Some of the S+M is hard enough to leave pronounced marks. Occasionally there are tears. But since we all have different tastes we should appreciate that there are sites that cater to a wide variety of niches.
So would I recommend this site? Absolutely if youre into hardcore BDSM; absolutely not if you arent. The site offers porn that is definitely not cookie-cutter. If you like authentic and unique BDSM with hot models in professionally shot scenes then this is a site worth exploring. |

Thanks for posting this excellent review. I find the best reviews here are by people who spend time on the site, spend time with the scenes and then give lots of detail and your review hits all those and more.
I'm a big fan of this site though I also can feel a bit creeped out by it sometimes. But if there is anything else on the web that's quite like this I haven't seen it.
In case you're not aware, the guy behind Assylum, Dr. Mercies, is starting an all-oral site soon. I don't know the name of it but it sounds as over-the-top as Assylum is.

Excellent review Sir. I'm a big fan of this site too and you and I seem to share a lot of likes and dislikes. One of the many scenes this site has going for it is that there really is nothing else like it on the internet. That's also a problem for the site since this is a narrow niche too.
This is off topic, but the Penny Pax / Sarah Shevon scene is definitely my favorite.

Thanks for the comments pat. I objectively agree with most of your concerns but subjectively view them differently. I don't think the goal here is to demean the models and it does seem like many of them are enjoying it. I also don't see this as being like Facial Abuse (or Face Fucking as it is now called). Face Fucking is just downright mean and nasty where Assylum isn't. (Off topic, but I wonder why several models go back to Facial Abuse for several shoots knowing what they're getting into.)

The Sarah Shevon scene is probably my favorite on the site, but not because I like Sarah (which I do) but because I like Penny Pax even more. What makes the Sarah/Penny scene more interesting is that this is probably the most extreme thing that I've ever seen Penny do. The scene probably didn't push any of Sarah's limits but it probably did push Penny's limits.
I agree that the cost at Assylum is high, but given how unique they are it is still a good value. (And jook just posted that the trial membership is a full trial.)

Thanks for commenting. I agree with you that there is really nothing else like this site. I had planned to spend a month, cancel and then rejoin but I think I'll keep my membership here. The site is small and only updates weekly but the site owner is active on his own message board and on several other forums. I think that bodes well for the site being a success. The site defiantly isn't a cookie-cutter BDSM site.

This site is easily among the most innovative sites Ive ever had a membership at. If there is another site like this on the internet Im not aware of it. Ill get the only real negative out of the way now since this site does so much right: as a new site its still small. There are currently only 12 videos available. The site updates with a new video added weekly. One potential downside to that is that some of the scenes are in two parts so you may have to wait to get the full scene. (For example, part 1 of the Penny Pax / Sarah Shevon scene was uploaded on August 4 and part 2 wasnt uploaded until September 15.)
I joined this site to see Penny Paxs scene and not really knowing what to expect of the site overall. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the porn and the technical quality. These guys know what theyre doing.
One thing I expected was that the scenes would be similar to Kink.com but I was wrong. Where Kink has dark and foreboding sets and the hint of menace, Assylum is bright and playful. Yes, I know they tout themselves as featuring rough sex, but it isnt all that rough. The most common BDSM traits are humiliation and bondage rather than outright pain.
The sites premise is simple: the models are all patients at an asylum to be treated for their perversions. The asylums theory is that if they overload the model with her particular perversions that will cure her. (The good news: it doesnt seem to work!) The staff are a doctor (an older, normal looking guy who wears a mask in all the scenes) and an orderly (a younger, more typical porn male). The scenes usually start in the doctors office with the model in some sort of bondage. Most scenes shift to a different set where the truly strange stuff happens (and I mean that in a good way). Whats so strange? How about a model with a small shovel handle in her ass made to dig in the dirt? Or Rose Red with her face painted like a clown and wheels tied to her knees, a steering wheel tied to her back and a horn in her mouth made to crawl around like a car all the while the doctor fucks her in the ass? Ive seen a lot of porn before but nothing quite like this. (I should add here that it really looks like the female models are having a lot of fun.)
Speaking of models, I was also pleasantly surprised that the site gets some A-list talent to appear. As I noted, Penny Pax and Sarah Shevon are here (though Sarah could be seen as a fetish model) as are Calico, Emma Haize, Casey Calvert, Rose Red, Marica Hase and others.
Other common BDSM techniques are also used, like caning, wax play, watersports and suspensions. Also, if you like female on male rimming youll see a lot of that too.
The technical aspects of the site are also well done. Videos are available in three sizes (1080p, 720p and 480p). 4K videos are available for an extra cost premium membership. I downloaded the 1080p which are 1920x1080 at 7000kb/s and 24fps. Subjectively they look great on both a 24 monitor and a 50 TV. An issue some may have is that the 1080p files are all fairly large with some at more than 3GB but smaller files are available.
Production values are high with lighting and editing well done. Id prefer if the camera angles showed more penetration but they are often side-on.
Another innovative feature available is a commentary soundtrack that can be toggled on or off. Its interesting to hear the models thoughts on whats going on in the scene.
The sites innovation doesnt begin and end with the actual scenes. There is a message board where members can make suggestions and comments and it appears that the doctor is active on the board and responds to messages. Having such direct contact between the members and the site owners is great and I hope the site owners continue to participate and be responsive to members suggestions. Another unique thing about the site is that they have a shop where members can buy props used in the scenes. If youre hankering for the torn clothes Violet Monroe wore in her scene ($250), the nurse outfit Savannah Fox wore ($150) or an autographed ass mold by Casey Calvert ($300) youre in luck. Youll want to act fast on Caseys ass mold though, because Im digging through the couch looking for money to buy that.
Obviously this site wont be for everyone. If your tastes run to couples porn then youre probably not likely to take out a membership here. But if you like unusual porn with a slightly hard edge but a heavy dose of zany fun then you should consider joining. Even the basic membership is a bit pricey, especially when the (currently) small size is factored in. But given the quality of the videos, the uniqueness of the scenes and the fact that these are exclusive make this a good value. I highly recommend anyone join who likes this kind of porn and Ill definitely be back many times as the site grows. |

I think the record for me was somewhere north of $50 USD. it may have been as much as $70. It was for a unique BDSM site so the costs and rarity supported the price. And the Canadian dollar was either on par with or higher than the US dollar so that helped. $40 seems to be a mental block for me these days.

Interesting read. I don't think this network has ever been on my radar and that's mostly because of the price. It may be worth it but I just have a mental block against paying that much. Unfortunately for me the Canadian dollar is in a slump so that makes memberships even more expensive.
I also agree with you that ATK Hairy wouldn't be a site I'd be interested in at all. I'm not going to criticize anyone's interests, but there are some I just don't share.
