I see this as an introduction to an alternative lifestyle that may not appeal to many.
Extremely creative and with an eye for porn as art.
Every scene is a surprise as each is different. I can find no real formula that repeats.
For a site that is specialized, there is a lot to see as they have 252 scenes.

Before joining the site, I have read the glowing reviews posted here. I was highly impressed, but still a bit hesitant. I thought that BDSM sites were misogynistic as well as had portrayed cruelty. What I did not realize until I checked further is that there are many among us who enjoy a bit of role play.
What I mean is that I saw scenes on the site that showed that there are some people who play at being submissive and dominant just for fun. I have heard that some females feel that if they met an alpha male that turned them on, they would be very submissive. I myself am not dominant or submissive, but good porn is about something you can imagine, even if you would not participate in such a thing. Role play on the site is by professionals who know that they are not going to hurt anyone or get hurt their selves. The dominant male here, Dr. Mercies, shows a concern for the safety as well as pleasure of his female submissive actresses. I don’t feel his actions show a lack of respect for his partners. The behind the scenes videos and interviews show just how mutual the pleasure is, and how often the women suggest the action that turns them on.
The site is fairly large with 252 scenes. There is plenty to see here, despite the fact that new scenes are being put up only one per month for almost a year. The most recent feature a real hotty, a great porn actress, Rebel Rhyder. I think she is great at this kind of extreme scene. She would make a terrific runway model based on her looks alone and she also would be on many favorites lists if she was simply a nude model.
Each scene is highly creative, using props that look to be custom made for each movie. The themes range from being a patient of Doctor Mercies, or appearing at a job interview to work in his office, Halloween themed, or even meeting on a dating app. The ideas are as varied as Dr. Mercies can make them and include many that surprise me and I hope you also.
The name of the site, Assylum, tells you to expect an anal theme. There is lots of anal sex, female on male rimming and anal play with insertions. This is not for the squeamish, but requires the viewer to accept what you see and not be judgmental. I am thinking of the term suspension of disbelief.

You need lots of special equipment: all types of whips, different paddles, handcuffs and ropes and other restaints, clamps, balls to stick in your woman's mouth, special exercise equipment to hang your slave on the ceiling or off the floor. Maybe a cattle prod from Amazon or your local adult store for extra excitement. Other types of electric prods to make her squeal.

I don't know how much actual pain the slaves are experiencing. The site seems to focus more on humiliation than actual torture. I believe there is mild pain, but not extreme pain. At some of the extreme sex sites I've seen, the women seem to experience more pain during the sex, than the Shadow Slaves site videos.
On a personal level, I've experienced mild to severe pain, at hospitals for different conditions. If you experience severe pain, it's almost impossible to stop from screaming and/or crying.
The models here are not screaming or crying. They are making noises that are supposed to show pain, but it's mild pain, mild noises.
Yes, individuals have different levels of pain tolerance, but these women are being humiliated more than being tortured.
There's one video, "Introducing Elise Graves", where the mistress is supposed to be treating the female slave roughly. And the slave is screaming loudly. But it's more theater than real.
The mistress is kicking the slave in the buttocks, these are real kicks, but the buttocks is not a sensitive area of your body, so screaming loudly if you are kicked in the ass is theatrics, not experiencing real pain.
If you enjoy BDSM, this site might offer some worthwhile content. The site focuses on humiliation, not severe torture. But there is mild pain suffered by the slaves, and the master or mistress gets some satisfaction by dominating the slaves.

With a current membership to Assylum, I figured it was a good idea to update my last review.
Assylum hasn’t really changed since it began in 2014. It is like it was born fully formed and has stayed true to itself since then. The most recent scene uploaded is really not distinguishable from the first scenes on the site, and this is a good thing. From its very beginning, Assylum has been like nothing else I’ve seen on the Internet. The level of creativity that goes into each scene is utterly astounding. Each scene is unique and can easily stand on its own in its creativity. The only commonality shared between the scenes is the underlying plot that each of the models is here at this Assylum to be cured of her sexual depravity. Spoiler alert – she’s come to the wrong place! Here, her depravity will be turned up to 11.
It’s best if I step back for a moment just in case there is a reader who doesn’t know what Assylum is. Assylum is a BDSM website that was begun by the creative mind and talent behind it who goes by the stage name Dr. Mercies. The good doctor has had a few assistants over the years but he mostly operates alone. I used to watch a lot of BDSM scenes but I stopped because I found so many of them were repetitive. This is not a concern I’ve ever had when watching Assylum scenes. Here, the scenes use all manner of restraint, including suspension. The S&M can be intense. The sex is always rough and always (and only) anal. The “patients” are often choked, peed on and in and go through various anal insertions. On top of this, they are often dressed or is equipped in a degrading manner. For example, in one scene the model is on all-fours with wheels on her hands and knees and a steering wheel tied to her back. The good doctor “drives” her around while anally screwing her. I’m reasonably confident that no one else has ever done something like this before.
The site has continued to grow and now has 241 scenes. A new scene is added each month. While some will prefer more frequent updates, I can assure readers that the level of creativity that goes into each of the scenes more than makes up for it.
It should be noted that a small number of the scenes are interviews with the models or BTS scenes. In a handful of cases these are “Director’s cuts” of earlier scenes. I didn’t subtract these from the overall scene count because, in my opinion, they are well worth watching. I found it interesting to watch the interviews to learn what was going on in a model’s head during what had to be a very difficult shoot. As for the Director’s cuts, these are often of some of the most extreme scenes on the site and they bring added footage and added depravity.
An advantage that Assylum seems to have had from the very beginning is its ability to bring in mainstream talent. Many other extreme BDSM sites only have fetish models. I’ve seen models here with multiple scenes, and extreme scenes at that, that I would never have expected. But there is a new crop of mainstream porn models, Rebel Rhyder and Charlotte Sartre are good examples, who are also known for their anal prowess and kink. Both of these women have multiple scenes here.
The basic subscription price includes downloads and streaming videos with 480p, 720p or 1280p resolutions. A Premium membership is required to download the 4K videos and that’s $10 more per month.
Good news is that if you are a member at one of these related sites, you get a discount at the others.
A negative that I have commented on in every review is that the download speeds can be quite slow. The speeds here are about 25% of what I see at most other adult sites. This isn’t a deal-breaker because the downloads still work and I like what the site has to offer.
Apart from the minor issue of slow download speeds, I think the only negative here would be that the site is so extreme that it isn’t for people who simply want to dip their toe in the BDSM niche. There are plenty of sites that cater to lighter BDSM. Assylum is an adult portion. However, for those who like to watch extreme BDSM, you can’t do better than Assylum.
An advantage that Assylum offers prospective members is that they have lengthy trailers for each of their scenes. I highly recommend that any prospective member watch some of those to decide whether a membership here is really for you.

The bottom line for me is that for prospective members who like this kind of extreme BDSM, you aren’t going to find anything else like this. If you like extreme BDSM but find it gets too repetitive then you need to check out Assylum.
