Regarding the 22 girls, they are probably singled out as "Vivid Girls" because that's the way they refer to their "contract girls" aka "contract performers" at Vivid. The number 22 is likely how many models they've had under contract over the years.

I haven't been at Vivid in a long time but I was recently at another studio website and their past and present contract models were also singled out from the rest of models that have appeared in their DVDs.

Since studios put a lot of money in marketing their contract models, it's logical their website pays much more attention to them than other models on their DVDs.

the site is theoretically NEW AND IMPROVED. Since I wasn't a member before they improved I can't really judge the difference. However here are the specs on this site now

22 girls (not really sure what's up with the girls, except that theya re featured in multiple DVD's on the site...I guess they are the main actors in the Vivid scenes...although there are a few other girls on the site...)

252 DVD's with multiple scenes each so around 500 scenes or close to it.

Really fast streaming but no download options.

No search options.

Overall a decent streaming site but there is still much to do such as adding more content and a larger variety. Oh and maybe adding a search function?

I am such a big fan of Vivid and own so many of their DVD's. I was a member of this site for a couple of years and then they upgraded the site a few month's back. I had a couple of billing issues were minor and got resolved. But when they upgraded I had to reinput my password. I asked Vivid for it through the proper channels and the customer service was terrible. I ended up getting rid of my membership.

After being out of this site for 3 months I rejoined. The good point is the movie streams look good if on the small side picture wise. But the problem is I love the pictures and behind the scene videos. I can't find behind the scenes anymore and the pictures are impossible to navigate. The site also constantly asking you to reinput your password which is horribly frustrating so I could not take it and canceled after a week.

I have to agree with this review. For the money, Videobox is really the way to go. You may not see much Vivid content at that price (though they just started releasing Vivid COntent as a "Premium" channel) the updates are pathetic and searching is impossible (almost all links in scene descriptions return 0 results).

They've got such a big name in the industry because of their stars - they've shelled out to have the hottest contract girls - and wasted the opportunity by churning out crap so they could have a constant stream of stuff out there for business people to rent in hotel rooms - at least that's my theory. It's amazing to think what people with talent could have done with their contract girls. Such a waste.

Good, well written review. And I agree totally.

I signed up and discovered that it was all streaming and low quality. I tried to cancel and get a refund but was denied, so I just canceled and let the membership run out. I think I might have gone in once after the first day just to make sure I didn't misunderstand what I experienced the first time. I didn't.

The $10 would have served me a whole lot better if I spent it on a couple of Big Macs. I know I would have enjoyed the cardboard burgers a lot more than that poor excuse of a porn site.

I have always thought of Vivid as too soft and not at all my taste. So I probably would never have subscribed to the site anyway. However, considering the size of their archives it seems obvious they don't care about the site. It beats me how they have such a big name in the industry.

Yes, agreed, the DRM thing has got to go and it's a good campaign that we should all fight. And, I think we've won some of the battles. I dont know about file sharing sites. I've tried eMule and some Bit Torrent thing, but had a lot of problems with downloaded files. I'm not as techy as most guys though, so it was probably me.

I would like to pick another fight and that is the one against Download Limits. I will NOT join a site with a DL limit. There are too many good sites without them. Why would they have them other than to just milk their customers for more and more monthly fees. I've belonged to VideoBox for two years, at a reasonable monthly price, and they have no DL limits. Why do customers stay there? Because they put up enough damn updates to keep us on board. Sites like Reality Kings, which admittedly, has some great content, imposes these ridiculuous limits on us. I refuse to join a site like that again.

In conclusion, I'm glad this site and TBP exist and I'm very happy that there are users that care enough to help us make our decisions easier and more economical. Thanks to all.

You're clearly right when you say that some webmasters look at this site. The example of ZTOD is perfect. I remember when they stopped the DRM they seemed to be genuinely interested in what we at PU had to say. The resolution of the files was crappy at first but the ZTOD webmaster caught hell for that too and that was changed.

I do still stand by my comment about companies like Vivid and Anabolic. I don't think they continue to use DRM because they feel a need to protect their stuff, I think that they just don't give a flying fuck about their customers.

BTW - I suggested a user poll that links DRM and file sharing. Almost universally, it seems that PU members hate DRM, so I wondered if we put our money where our mouths are. Does the average PU member bitch about DRM and then post their non-DRM files on a sharing site. If the folks at PU choose to post that poll it will be interesting to see the results.

I can't help but read this is light of a recent user poll where the overwhelming number of members said that DRM issues are their #1 pet peeve. Vivid could have one of the best sites on the 'net but by allowing streaming only and no DRM-free downloads they lose that ability. This is just my opinion of course, but I suspect that this isn't some error in using a 5 year old business model, but this is just showing disrespect to customers. If anything, it puts studios like Red Light, 3rd Movies, Zero Tolerance, Diabolic and German Goo Girls in a better light. Those companies realized that they could keep customers happier AND make more money by losing the DRM. (Funny that link between satisfied customers and making money�)

Down with Vivid (and other companies like Anabolic who thumb their noses at customers); up with Pornusers for giving us a forum to get this important information.

Thanks for the info. I see they haven't changed much over the years except for the somewhat higher resolutions. They always have given more importance to quantity over quality. Also, they've been pulling that bigger preview trick from day one. It doesn't make much sense to have so many picture content and that they care so little about it.

Well, the resolution on their pics has improved over the past few years, but get this - the pics on Vivid's site are smaller than the pics that you'll find that purport to be samples of the pics on Vivid's site - that's a flat-out rip-off, in my book.

The pics on the site are very poorly organized.

Think of what they could be doing - they've got their stars. They're doing promo photo-shoots. They're doing shoots at events.
They're doing "action" pics during filming. They're doing BTS shots.

They could be organizing things in various category by star by movie name and by event. But instead everything is a freaking mish-mash.

You can find galleries by star name that are a mish-mash of stuff, mainly action pics from filming, many of them very repetitive, poorly shot crap.

I completely agree with your review (I intend to write one for Vivid sooner or later):
*The flash player is just the mundane one that any junko porn site will install. There is something to be said about the quality of the flash player that VideoBox employs (and that is that it is superb).
*The videos are not downloadable (by conventional means). There are certain freeware tools that can assist in downloading the streams (as they are just simple FLV files, similar to WMV files playing in an embedded Windows Media Player windw), but we shouldn't have to be reduced to using such means. All non-VOD sites should provide straight "save as" links.
*Yeah, the site has not changed at all over the years. Rather disappointing considering that there is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much content they have to offer.
*I can't stand how they have this HUUUUUGE performer listing, yet when you click on most of the girls nothing is offered, either in the form of pictures or videos. Very disappointing.

Yes, you're right, I didn't even look at photos as I am not a photo guy. I join the sites strictly for the videos and only occasionally look at the photos.
I was so disappointed with this site, that I just didn't bother.
I will go back and look at them and add that aspect to my review.

You don't mention anything about the pictures. What resolutions are there? Are they grouped by movie only or also by star?

I was a member several years ago and I remember they had quite extensive galleries for each movie although the resolution was quite small.

Would Vivid still exist if it weren't for the cable market? I rather doubt it. The director that was actually talented (Robbie D) went to work for Digital Playground and Vivid was left to try to cash in on the alt-porn thing - talk about Morbid - Ucccccchhhhh!!

Still the last time I had a one-month membership I thought that they had made some significant improvements to the site - larger, save-able pics and better-looking streaming vid than when I had a trial membership previously.

Still, Vivid's main skill has always been that no company has ever been better at wasting opportunities than Vivid has. They have had many of the hottest women ever to have done porn as their contract stars, including Chasey Lain, Racquel Darrian, Asia Carrera, Kobe Tai, Lanny Barbie, Jenteal, Sunny Leone and they have not done shit with them as compared to what would have been possible if they were contract stars for a company with some imagination.

I bought a Vivid compilation DVD once, and it started out with 10 minutes of those phone sex commercials and they wouldn't allow bypassing to the menu, so you have to sit through them. Vivid really is a dinosaur in the porn industry. It's for people who never saw porn before and don't know any better.

Vivid's mass library of huge stars could make this the best website in the world. However, when you join, you get crappy quality (circa 1999) clips that you can't download. If you've seen the clips on other preview sections, yep, that's the quality, and they're better because at least you can't download them.

Someone mentioned that this site is basically a way to sell DVD's, and I agree. Can't they understand that the DVD market is dead? Man, this site has such potential but has perhaps the worst execution I've ever seen.

I'd been terribly disappointed at the quality of Vivid's pics before but the site was advertising high-res, so I hoped that they had increased the size of their pics and figures - what the hell, I'm only risking $10

Good news for me - the pics are quite a bit larger than the last time I was in this site - still not what I would call high-res, but compared to the last time I was a member they certainly are - and I can save them this time. So I'm happy, despite all of the limitations of this site as described by NY Giants and others.

At least they're going in the right direction!

Its fine to say you like the site, but giving a site with such terrible quality videos a 90 is simply wrong. You've totally ignored something that should be a key criteria. Obviously vivid has the capability to put up high quality videos. They don't do so on purpose. Its not like its some garage dude who can't afford a good camera. The videos aren't just not that good. They are terrible. Its a disgrace.

I really don't see how you can give a 90 score to this site. If all Vivid content were available in good quaility it might get that score, but its simply not the case. The "new" videos are not good quality either, in fact I found that many of the older videos had better quality. But finding them is nearly impossible. This site is a waste of money unless you're viewing the videos on an ipod.

Plus they're full-length movies, streaming only. You can't foward in search of scenes. Try that and it just breaks down. They could have at least offered separate scenes.

I joined because I just had to see the Monique Alexander content, of which there's lots, and she is a sight to behold, but I can't sit around doing busywork waiting for a sex scene in a movie, only to view it in either that tiny window or "full blown."

They don't even bother to zip their pic files, either. Grrrrr.

Hey, maybe now I'll buy some of their DVDs!
