warning

Don't click the links in Tao's post. I tried one and was greeted with a warning window that wouldn't go away. Something about no certificate or something, choice to accept or reject. No matter what you click, the window pops back up. Had to use control-alt-delete to exit. Sorry for the vagueness. I'm no techy.

I've never had any problem at clips 4 sale before, and I've downloaded several clips from there.

My concern is those videos have an upload date from a year ago and no one has done anything about it. If Clips 4 Sale only offers the "a posteriori" copyright control you suggest, I can't help but doubt they are doing much in terms of enforcing other legal aspects like model releases and so on.

While it is entirely possible that content on C4S may not be legal sold, it is difficult to realize who has that right. You have to consider that it may a Bangbros rep posting them or a third-party who has purchased the rights to the videos. It is really up to Bangbros or any other provider to keep track of that and, if necessary, file a copyright violation claim against a store owner. I am sure C4S has some kind of process for handling DMCA/copyright claims.

The most they can do in the short term is ask the store owner to remove any videos that were not sold legally or ban the user if they do not remove them after a short time. The only way a company can sue is if both the store owner and C4S does not reply or remove the clips within a certain period of time. Even still, considering it is the porn industry they usually do not sue since many courts still have a bias against the material they sell and many of them know that at least some level of stolen/distributed content actually brings in more customers.

I went to Google to see if anyone else is having the same problem, and the only solution I saw was to play the files using VLC. But that was only after digging through half a dozen sites. Codec problems can be tough to figure out. I'm fortunate enough to have a bunch of video players and video editting software that install codecs so I rarely have to deal with such things. All that to say, I really don't know what to tell you to do other than search the forums and maybe even join one so you can post your problem for others to answer.

Is all the content legal?

I payed a quick visit to a couple of the studios listed as recently updated on the home page. One had, among hundreds of similarly themed clips, a couple of fairly recent scenes from a Bangbros Network site. Another one had voyeur videos filmed in public.

I know some sites, specially solo model sites, that post here some of the clips also available inside their members area; some porn stars who do not have a site of their own also have a studio here to sell content produced on their own. But I doubt that Bangbros Network would lease their content to a third party and let them open a studio here to sell their content. I am also concerned about the legal situation of those voyeur videos.

Since this site is just a platform for studios to sell their content, maybe you could try contacting both the studio where you bought the clip and the common Clips 4 Sale tech support.

You could also try opening the files with the Gspot codec app. It should be able to tell you the file type and what codecs were used to encode them - including the audio.

I don't know what that is. What you could try is---make a copy of the file, and place it in another folder, then try to rename the extension to .wmv---but only do this with a copy, keep the original.

Nonexistent service

This site is a rip-off; I bought a 12 minute clip of Boroka for $12, which certainly is expensive enough, but when I downloaded it, it came out as a dm.pf file (rather than a .wmv) that I finally figured out how to play but does not have any audio. The worst part, however, is that the webmaster has completely ignored at least 2 voice mail messages that I left and at least two e-mails that I've sent to ask for assistance on this. I strongly recommend that anyone considering using the site think twice.

Perfectly understandable. I think I spent 15 minutes deciding which video to buy because it is very easy to get them, yet they cost so much. They really should have a half-and-half system ala Columbia House (in the old days), pay a monthly membership fee of $9.95 and get the clips 50% off, or even, offer a "bulk" discount (buy 10 as a member, get each video for just $5). I think people would buy more (good for the producers) but it wouldn't be so expensive as to be not worth it.

The only way this site will work is with very niche, difficult-to-find content (creampies, slow hand jobs, pre-cum, bisexual, etc.) because if it descends to the level of the porn you can buy anywhere, then, no one will spend $10 on a 15 minute clip, for $10 more, you can buy a 4 hour DVD.

Didn't think this site was going to be added to PU, since it is not a traditional "monthly membership" site. Essentially, anyone can set up a shop here and sell clips at any price they set. Of course the prices are high cause they have very little market tools, most are not really business people, and both the credit card processor and C4S take out a percentage from each sale. I have bought a couple of clips from here. It is a toss-up really. Some content is old and out-of-date. Some is HD. Mostly fetishes, but some have regular content. I question the legality of some stores' content as it seems like some are just reselling older copyrighted content that they [the clip studio owners] may not hold the license or ownership too...

Other than that this site could certainly use a make-over. Focusing on all categories instead of just fetish would be nice as well and I H-A-T-E that you cannot add clips from separate studios to the same shopping cart. To buy clips from separate studios you have to buy from one (eg pay for) then another (eg pay again). Why cant I add studio 1's x clip and studio 2's y clip to the cart and pay for both at the same time? Unfortunately many credit card companies block repeated charges from the same company in one day preventing purchases from multiple studios.
