Monahan has a very good point here - no matter how M&B try to market their sites/deals - 'their credibility sucks' - it seems. The same with their updates - and content in general!
I think, that TBP has downgraded the site lately (not sure) - but 85 is still pretty high - to say it nicely - for this site..

M & B is now selling VIP upgrades for new signups thru next week at $24.95 per month and $59.95 for 3 months.

But if you use the PU link, the prices are $19.95 and $39.95...and no upgrade apparently.

With all of their shady practices reported in PU, their credibility sucks. I don't plan to sign up through the PU link. But if someone else does, let us know what's up.

It's probably the style of sites that I join. Mostly very erotic/softcore/photography websites. I've never joined a hardcore site or anything too extreme. That could be the difference. I guess FTV gave me a pre-checked trial, but man . . . that's the last I remember and that was two years ago. Epoch might be the deal. I've used them maybe once. It's almost always ccbill for me.

Wow, you've got REALLY lucky. I would say that from my (pretty extensive) experience at least 1/3rd of sites these days are trying to swindle users using PRE-CHECKED trials (especially typical for the sites which credit card transactions are handled by Epoch).

Well, you've got me there! Any site that includes pre-checked trials is not cool. Again, I think we've had very different experiences. Until M&B, I had never joined a site with a pre-checked trial or anything like it. I'm aware that stuff like that is out there, but I've never joined a site like that.

Maybe it was a combination of the pre-checked trial they tried to get me to accept, or the really patronizing email from the support staff that treated me like I was an idiot who never joined an adult site before, or the trial that was so severely limited that it was almost useless - whatever the reason, I got a very negative impression of M&B and I can't recommend it to anyone.

Sites like that make me really appreciate the ones who do it well in a straightforward and direct manner.

The financial gain isn't from the $3.95 trial, but from the full subscription that kicks in after 24 hours. It's merely a ploy to hook you. It's a classic bait and switch, which results in them being *that* much more likely to get you to sign on for the full subscription.

Moreover, it's a matter of principal. There is absolutely no reason that they shouldn't be up-front about the whole thing. If I knew I was getting a limited trial, I probably would have tried it anyway. It just annoys me, you know?

I understand that you're playing devil's advocate in regards to what a "trial" is. Perhaps the word "trial" outside of the adult industry has a different meaning, but what does that matter? We're not outside of the adult industry. The bottom line for me is, I've done a lot of trials and the ones that are limited tell me so, so I expect that. You can say it's redundant, but we clearly have different expectations for trials. I consider a trial to be limited to length of subscription only.

I don't think we're going to come to an agreement, but it's a fun conversation, especially since the subject is porn :-)

Right. But as I've said, the question is that if the very word "trial" implies some restrictions or not. And (playing devil's advocate) IMHO it can be easily argued that it does imply at least some restrictions (number of limited trials even in adult industry is not that small, you can see it on TBP, and if we'll go outside the adult industry, trials will become obviously limited). And if it is implied, what is the need to tell it once again?

It doesn't really matter what you're buying, the company has a duty to tell you what to expect. Mac and Bumble is one of my favorite "hate-sites". It's generally a fake concerning previews and what seems to be updates - old, old stuff (like videos of for exampel Lonnie Adams shown as new stuff) - man, it's OLD, very old.
Take a look at earlier comments AND PU-reviews.
One thing I really do NOT understand is how our friends at TBP can still give this site 90.8 score...
BTW: Took a look at the join-page: don't see no trail - just a $19.95 for a month and a special $13.33/month for 3 months...
But anyway - won't go near this site again.

While in general I like to tell that some site is swindling it's customers ;-), I don't think I would name it "fraud" in this case (it's stupid on their part, but that's another story). And that's because at least for me, "trial" means something to try :-); kind of test drive without any guarantees that it will be the full thing. For example, when I'm taking a car for a test drive, I won't complain if salesguy will be in the car and I won't be allowed to drink my coffee and spill it all over the place :-).

Overall, it's all about expectations, but IMHO trials are generally not expected to be full; if somebody gives me full trial - good, if not - tough luck, but I don't have much to complain about.

So IMHO "Don't even bother with trial" is a useful warning, thanks, but naming it "fraud" is IMHO a bit too much.

Ugh - what a waste of time. The trial is SEVERELY LIMITED. Only a few galleries per model are available and for many models no galleries at all are available!!

I intentionally looked around the site - even read the fine print in the user agreement - to see if it was a limited trial. I found nothing. There is a word for this: Fraud.

What a waste of time and money. Stay far, far away from this site.

I was a member a while back, and at the time they did not mention the price until you joined the regular section of the site. Anyway at the time the vip price $40 additional to the normal fee.

If you do not like airbrushing on your photos be forewarned there is a lot of it. The videos are not that great either. However, the models are very attractive!

Try a few things before paying the extra $40 though, there may be ways to easily download the photos, but I do not what they are because I paid the extra.....not worth it.

Mac & Bumble was a great site several years ago and was rather popular with great content.

Two possibilities since then, both not particularly good:

1. The site's owner has lost and is just letting the site sit dormant while he collects revenue to support his retirement.
2. The site was sold to someone who has decided to use it as a scam operation.

These days there are so many great sites at great prices, and there's also Porn Users where many will be educated about shit sites like M&B that their approach to doing business will fail.

Well now I cant comment on the 60s or even the 70s, but I do agree. Although, I have not "told the people" much lately. I have been working on a larger network.

I like it so much more I can say that a site is great or it sucks. There is now afterthought there. But the network I am working on now....I just dont know...grrr.

Hey man, keep these types of warnings coming....they save people money and frustration. I do not regret joining M&B previously, but I do not think I could justify to myself to do it again. Others I can not wait to rejoin, like Twistys an Sapphics. Good stuff.

That is what I have been thinking so far. I always recieve these update emails from them and they always show some damn fine looking women, so it has been a little tempting. I just do not want to spend THAT much money for their stuff. I am actually wondering if then the TBP reviewers looked around the site they missed the part out the extra charge for the zips. Nothing against them though, it took me a bit to figure everything out and I was looking for that specifically and they are not honest enough to mention this fee during the tour...at least that I noticed.

I believe I will stick to my gut feeling, and your advise, and spend my porn dollars elsewhere. Thanks Denner

Badandy, you've been around for some time here, so just this: Don't go for it. M&B have this fine looking preview, but when you join very little is new - VERY little. I'd never go there again.
Joined this site 3 or 4 times - and man, was I disapointed.
There are swell photos in the preview - and a promiss of updates with - for exampel - Lonnie Adams. When you join it's all the same ol' photos and videos of the lovely Lonnie. Noting new.
90,8 at TBP need an updates, for sure - see PU-reviews........

Does any one know if they still force the $40 fee for zip files of the photo set? I was a member previously and would not mind rejoining at some point, but I am not paying this fee again. I would if they charge it again if you paid for it before? Can another offer some insight here?

I email customer service a while back about the fee and if we have to prepay it if we rejoin, but I got no reply. :(

I guess I should have been more clear on the cancellation part. What I should have said is if the user cancels his or her account, membership access is blocked immediately, no matter how much time is left on the membership period. Even though they tell you this up front, I still think that this might be an illegal practice. You have paid for a specific membership period, and you should get the product that you have paid for. Alternatively, they should refund you the difference. Personally, I think they do this in order to bilk as much money out of you as possible by hoping that you will forget to cancel your membership in time and miss the automatic renewel date, thus forcing you to pay for another membership period.

Even exotics4me, who gave them an 80 last July, was lamenting the fact that their pics aren't "hi-rez." Their 1067s are too small to cut it anymore without at least 1600px available, too.

Actually, they did have a larger size of one of the models, at least at one time. Can't remember her name now, but she was a blond former Playboy playmate. She was hugging a palm tree, and the pics were somewhere in the 1400-1600px range. I'm just pointing out that they did, so they could, but they haven't, and I s'pose they won't.

I think Lonnie is quite deeply into nude modeling retirement by now. On her own site, she was starting to look a bit, well, less fresh and less trim. She was one of those killer gorgeous girls who came ahead of the times of better systems, bandwidth, pics and vids, and demanding users like ourselves on PU.

And then there's Linda O'Neil, Neriah Davis, Nikky Nova (before the garish tatoo all over her back, though she's still hot!), and ... I shouldn'a gotten started ...

Anyway, when I get an M&B newsletter, it goes straight into the bin. I doubt they'll ever change.

They don't give a damm about members, the stuff they update are worth very little - yeah, we're only in it for the money.

Critic like this needs explanation - let me give you some:

In the latest newsletter you can get directed to - for exampel - the great Lonnie Adams. In the preview there SEEMS to be new material of this fine old timer. But bah,bah,bah - it's the old videos and the old photosets - in spite of new - alleged - thumbnail-photos. They are even so stupid, that the vids- thumbnails (with new photos) direct you to the old videos.
Fake, brother, fake!
This site needs a serious new evaluation by TBP!

"Gouge 'n Grumble" is what I'd call a hungry dinosaur.

Thanks for the update. Frankly, a rating of 50 suits them well. I think I paid enough for the privilege of saying so.

The sites that play games with their paying members are screwing themselves more than the consumer.

If I like a site I'll "let it ride" for several renewals until I tire of the existing content and the updates aren't enough reason to stick around. The site makes good money at very little cost on these renewals.

The minute I see a deceptive practice, like the zip file surcharge mentioned in brixe's comment, or the sneaky assent hidden in the signup template that he mentions, I'm gone and the site is out the revenue.

The cancellation policy mentioned by exotics4me's review is also a bit on the sleazy side where the site takes your money but fails to deliver the goods.

The worst part for the site is the information sharing available to us on PU. The money spent by Mac & Bumble promoting its site and the special discount offered to TBP members is now a lost cause to M & B just because they tried to be a little bit too slick.

Their loss.

I'd like TBP to consider revising their high score (90.8) for M & B to reflect these serious deceptive practices.

It's too bad. You're right in pointing out that the size limitation is dating the site back a few years.

It was actually the first pay site I ever joined. Things sure have changed. I'm glad, of course.

I suppose they're still upselling to a higher price to make all pics available, as well as any access to zips? That's what they did last year.

Zipfiles

The standard membership price does not include the possibility of downloading zipfiles. An extra "one time" fee of 39.95$ is demanded. So count on downloading one pic at a time. No mention is made of this before signup. Also, I was given a 1 day trial membership to Maxglamour for $1.95 renewing at 33.95$. But I didn't know about it... It's all about the money... After browsing the site for a few days I say Mac and Bumble is overrated.

Twisty's, Viv Thomas,Suze Net are all better.
