***UPDATE****
+ Download speeds have dramatically increased over the past few months.
+ Streaming and download options have been improved and the quality is much better. They have passed VideoBox in terms of the quality of the video capture.
+ File size is much better than most sites offering DVD quality downloads. Roughly 1/2 to 1/3 the file size.
+ Great titles that are not found on other sites. |

This has gotten much better over the last 9 months. The speed and quality increases alone have made this site one of my favorites.
If you have a subscription to VB or VideoZ than you will like American Vice. I plan on renewing my 1 year subscription when the time comes.
Reg does a great job with the updates and the commentary that goes with each scene. |

Looking at my pros and cons you may think my score is skewed. I didn't have a lot of problems with this site that I could call out but I just found the overall experience a bit bland.
Typically with sites of this size I enjoy spending hours plugging in different search criteria and finding those video treasures. With American Vice I just didn't have that experience. I felt I got through the site fairly quickly and only kept a handful of downloads by the time the month was over.
I also had a beef with the video quality. They use 680 x 480 resolution which is becoming a little dated. Some of the clips were actually wide screen embedded within the 680 x 480 full screen. This made quality even worse if I cropped the video to fit my widescreen monitor.
I don't regret joining. It was worth it for the price but I'm not supper anxious to re-join. |

To spite my long D/L rates, this is still the best value of a website I seen in a long time...probally ever.
I am still confused why they would offer a "token system" when you can get unlimited downloads for under $20
There isnt anything else I could say that hasnt already been said, I guess it helps to have more reviews though...This site is really worth a look!! |

Excellent video site that caters to most tastes, a rarity among its peers who tend to be so main stream that they become boring very quickly.
Three different degrees of quality when it comes to downloads. The best quality video (WMV) has a bitrate of 2000 and is quite acceptable, especially since the huge HD files of other sites have eaten up a lot of my hard drive space.
A superb search engine even though a novice frequently gets a message that whatever he is looking for can not be found. With a bit of experience these messages get fewer and fewer and you really are able to zero in on what appeals to you most.
The most responsive and friendly webmaster I have come across so far in a porn site.
Excellent download speeds (1.4 - 1.7 MB/s) for me on single downloads. With multiple downloads speed goes down accordingly but is still quite respectable.
Almost forgot to mention: I love the editorial comments and find them not only funny but quite helpful. |

Only one con but I am not sure if that is a personal or site problem: I am not able to stream a scene with Firefox. I have tried everything, even using the IE plug-in, but that invariably takes me to the join page and asks for my user name and password. I am using "sample" to get an idea of what a scene is all about but usually don't get much information through the short clip shown. Wish they switched to Flash. |

This is a site I am really enthused about.
Subscriptions to other video sites usually start out with a WOW and next day are followed by IS THIS ALL THERE IS, but the niches are so well represented in this site that I keep finding excellent videos left and right that I've never seen before and the WOW factor has been extended.
As someone stated, this site could stand heftier updates to keep up with the competition, but on the other hand, if the webmaster keeps throwing us bones in the form of different and unusual contents I shall remain a loyal supporter.
In one sentence: Highly recommended and, to me, this is the best video site around, beating its bigger peers hands down when it comes to entertainment value and value for the buck. |

The perspectives are correct. The video, and therefore bodies of the models, are not distorted due to the video not fitting the screen correctly.
No DRM.
No download restrictions
No regional discrimination
Great customer service
Wonderful navigation. Once you get used to it, it's easy and efficient.
The sound appears to be actually in synch, unlike some sites.
3 qualities of video. The highest is good quality.
Very good value
Genuine no trick download 5 scenes for free offer.
They do a write up of each dvd and have an editors choice for what they consider the best scene.
You can keep a track of what you have downloaded with a personal download history. |

My very first 90, because for me, this is the best in its class.
I have tried to be fair and not let my liking for fetish material weigh too much. For the number of dvd's available, the percentage of fetish is probably better than any equivalent site.
Here are the stats

The customer service is absolutely brilliant. I asked them a question and they answered within the hour. Have you ever joined a site and got that sinking feeling when you realise you've done your money or been conned in some way? Well this gave me the opposite feeling. I consider this to be the best site I have joined. It gives me a warm feeling to spend my money on a site run by people who DO give a shit. Gawd bless yer Toadsith! I joined because of your review.
There are fewer dvd's than on some sites, but this is offset by the quality of what they have. Even after saying that, they still have over 1700. Also there isn't much point having a ton of dvd's with a worthless navigation that makes it impossible to find anything. This allied with the fact they have actually kept the original specifications and perspectives of the pictures. No Video Box situation where quite a few of the videos are distorted because they simply haven't bothered to fit or adapt them properly.
The whole feel about the place is that they DO care. It's those little things (actually for me, they are quite big), like having the correct picture and sound, great customer service, and great value for money.
The only thing is I'm gutted at having to finally award a 90. Ebeneezer Squirrel hates giving high marks, as you all probably have realised. Bah humbug. |

The sheer complexity of the search engine around which American Vice is built is daunting. I oft forget some useful feature when using it because there are so many to choose from. The layout is a JavaScript menu system that you click to add any of the 76 standard filters. Once you're happy with your basic search, you can organize it by date added or by title and choose how many items are displayed per page.
Then you can refine it further by star, director, studio, and series or even by if you've watched the scene or not – the site keeps track so you don't have to waste your brain on such things. Add to all this that you can make your own text string filters and the only limitation of this amazing engine is all the filters are Boolean AND functions – but since most users are perplexed by full Boolean search engines, this isn't much of a fault.
Browsing the content your search has found is easy with screen caps for each scene and WMV streaming that lets you search through the video. Hit the download button and this site's next strength becomes apparent. With full support for download managers and accelerators, speeds of +1 MB/s are not hard to reach you and you can keep browsing the site as the downloads are handled by separate servers.
The site has an undeniably huge collection, though not the biggest it must be said, and excluding the atomic ace of its amazing search engine, it has yet another important difference: The DVD catalog is abnormally diverse. You will find a lot of the standard studios but the site has a strong collection of nearly any fetish you can name (even John Thompson's Sex Box films). Due to that I'd recommend the site to those testing the waters of a fetish, as it will be reasonably represented here and at great value to boot.
The oddest plus of this site is a feature that's been abandoned by all of its competitors: Full written Editorial commentary on every scene and each DVD as a whole. More than just a run-down of the action, they honestly critique everyone involved. It often goes off topic in outrageously funny rants or references to whatever the scene brings to mind. It is all very stream-of-consciousness in a style reminiscent of MST 3000. Without their insightful commentary I might not have noticed how Katsumi in a specific DP scene was tied to the geo-political history of Vietnam in regards to France and America. The commentary gives a personality and voice to what otherwise would be a cold, efficient site. Sometimes I purposefully search for bad scenes just to see what the Editor said about them.
In the category of DVD content sites it is hard for a younger site to step out from under the shadow of the undeniable giant at the top – but I think American Vice does just that. Having tried many of the popular DVD content giants, I can honestly say that American Vice is better than all of them. If they can enlarge their catalog to match their competitors, nothing will stand in their way. |
