What kind of speeds were you actually getting and what is your connection?
There may be a small lag if their servers are overseas, but still shouldn't be that much of a difference.

On a 15 mbps-rated cable connection, I was getting around 300-400 KB/sec (or 2.3-3.1 mbps). On sites that I know are served from US servers, I often see downloads north of 10 mbps, sometimes up to 20 mbps as my ISP will boost bandwidth when I am downloading large files.
