Good idea. I know that I've rated sites highly that then flew down a rat-hole and other sites made some necessary adjustments to improve.

I must say that is a damn good idea. Sites do change with time.

Hey Khan,
Does it mean you will remove reviews older than 24 months? It would be natural to go that direction since same as points olds facts may not be applicable anymore. However for user history and site history (who said what and when) it would be great if they were not removed but rather hidden or archived. Something like "View archived reviews"

Hey Khan,
This sounds like a good idea, but I do have one question. This isn't going to be easy to word out.
Say I reviewed Site A 12 months ago, and rated it a 92. I then re-joined the site a year later and do a follow-up score and change my rating to 87.
Would that make the follow-up review score (87) a new one that would count 100% or would it still be listed as 12 months old and only count 50%?
I hope I didn't make that more confusing than it needed to be.

The plan is to archive Reviews that are older than 2 years. Unless something in the plan changes, the archived Reviews should still be accessible.

Your most recent score would be the one that is counted towards a site's total score. How much it would be counted would depend on how old it was.
In your example, the rating of 87 would be the most recent, thus the one counted. For the first 6 months after you did the Review, it'll be counted 100%. After that, it'd count less (as indicated in the announcement itself).
We suspect this will come up more than one my think but that's because of some other changes we've got coming up that have to do with how (and how frequently) a User can edit their Review(s).
We'll have more on that when those changes are announced.

I really like the change. My only question is whether a newbie's rating will affect the overall result:
1. While he's still a newbie?
2. After he's become a regular but has not updated a review written while he was a newbie?

I'm not 100% sure I'm following your question.
There was an announcement of a change (last Aug) regarding how a "newbie's" scoring of a site doesn't count UNTIL they reach 5 points. Once they reach 5 points, their score is factored in just like other scores.
To read the full wording, see:
Major Site Scoring Change

I *think* that addresses your question but if not, I'll need you to re-word the question.

I think you answered my other question.
I got the impression that the scores posted by a newbie didn't count until they reached 5 points, at which time all of the scores posted earlier would count, retroactively.
It sounds like you're saying that the first 4 posts by a newbie will never count and that, once a newbie reaches 5 points, such as when he posts his fifth score, his scores will start counting from that point forward but not retroactively.

No Monahan, not sure how I managed it but I fear I've left you more confused. Let's see if I can get this straight this time.
You said ...
"I got the impression that the scores posted by a newbie didn't count until they reached 5 points, at which time all of the scores posted earlier would count, retroactively."
YES, that's exactly how it works. Just remember that it's 5 points, not 5 posts. It's not at all unusual (especially for shills) to not earn any points for their early submissions. Most users take a few times before they get the hang of what's required to actually earn points.
Then you said ...
"It sounds like you're saying that the first 4 posts by a newbie will never count and that, once a newbie reaches 5 points, such as when he posts his fifth score, his scores will start counting from that point forward but not retroactively."
Ok, not sure what I said to leave you with that impression but no, that's not how it works at all.
BTW, did you actually read the announcement I referenced? I ask because it's possible Rick's wording would make it more clear than my ham-fisted efforts.
Anyhoo ... let us know if you're still confused.

OK, when I originally read Rick's post I understood it wrong. The post says, in pertinent part:
Starting NOW, reviews and ratings by registered users with under 5 points (status = Newbie) will no longer count toward the site's score or review count [emphasis added].
How will this help?
1. Previous fake/shill users...
2. This will encourage authentic users to at least reach the rookie level (5 points or more) so the reviews (their vote essentially) do mean something and to shows other users they're legit.
3. This will help discourage fake/shill users...
Will newbie reviews still be displayed?
Absolutely. It's important to us not to point our fingers at who is and isn't a fake/shill. In this regard, all reviews will still be displayed on our site and now labeled as Newbie. This now tells readers that the user has simply not written many reviews and to keep that in mind.
I agree that a legitimate Newbie who takes the time and effort to write a review should have his effort recognized and that a Newbie who reaches Rookie status should have his earlier scores counted so it looks like we're on the same page.
As for the "age-out" of a score, that's a great idea as well, given how many sites stop updating; are sold; get much better, edtc.
