Prepaid and temporary credit cards?

Haven't run into any shady business yet but reading the reviews, people have had issues with billing on sites I'd still love to join. I have never had issues with Visa and always gotten money back when I've been frauded or billed multiple times and such but I'd hate to have to change my card because of some fradulent site.

I've seen mentions of temporary credit cards you can use when you feel insecure. What are these and where can one get them? Are they just a temporary code you get?

I wish PayPal and others would accept adult industry.

Probably depends where you live, but just doing a search in my area for prepaid visa cards brings up nearly every bank in my area, most of the pharmacies like Walgreens and looks like most convenience stores have them too. I wouldn't bet against Wal-Mart having them either. They're pretty common.

I've never bought one, but I take it they work like gift certificates so I would guess if you wanted a $30 prepaid card you would pay $30, probably a small fee, couple dollars and tax. “You cannot blame porn. When I was young, I used to masturbate to Gilligan's Island.” - Ron Jeremy

RustyJ, there are two options, you can get a prepaid Visa as exotics stated, which I have used and it works fine. Although, be aware some prepaid credit cards have an up-front activation fee.

You can also get a temporary virtual card via some credit card companies. I know that Discover has this service, and I have used it and it also works fine - unless you intend to be a member of a site for more than whatever period you pay for when you sign up. This service is free anytime I have seen it.

I think either option works fine if you are concerned about security. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.

It appears that these cards are mostly sold in US and the virtual ones use US banks. I wonder if one using those virtual ones from Europe also needs to make up an US address to go with the card and join sites through some US based proxy?

Could be too much hassle...

It's difficult to advise you when you don't give your location but i'm in the UK and took out the Phones 4 U Escape prepaid mastercard a few months ago and have found it to be exellent. It cost me £9.99 to apply for but you can top it up free of charge by cash at any Phones 4 U shop or for a small fee online by debit card and then use the card virtually free of fees within the UK or for shopping online. I've already recovered the initial application fee by using the card to book a flight with Ryan Air online as they waive the £10 credit card booking fee for prepaid mastercard.

tangub, what kind of a dog is your avatar? I still haven't gotten used to looking at him/her yet. It must be some kind of British breed, where the dogs (and people) are different-looking from US breeds.

@tangub hi, I logged in just now to start a thread about prepaid credit cards and I see you have already partialy answerd my question. I currently have a real Captial One MasterCard, the only reason I keep this credit card is for ccbill and steam purchases. I'm thinking of paying off the entire balance and closing the Capital One account, then get a prepaid escape card (which functions as a MasterCard), but I wasnt sure if the escape card would work will ccbill, do you know if it does?

Earlier this year I was a victim of ID fraud but they made stupid mistakes with my ID so I was able to quicky clear things up, but it still gave me shit loads of stress. A loan company called Pay Day Loans gave a loan to somebody claiming to be me, they insisted that I pay back the money, until I got the Financial Ombudsman involved then the loan company quickly backed off lol.

this whole incident has left a nasty taste in my mouth and made me rethink how I use electronic money. I want a card that I can use online to buy porn, games, music and stuff but that is not connected to any real account, I will top it up as and when with real hard cash.

While I like the idea of prepaid cards, they can be high maintenance. I tend to join sites intending to stick around for several months, Prepaid cards need to either be recharged or replaced or the renewals will be declined.

My approach, that has worked well for at least 5 years, is to use a card where I've established a very low credit limit ($80.00) and watch all activity on line. That card is used only for porn sites so if I deal with a biller who decides to play games, he'll bump into the limit very quickly.

i know u probably know where to get them but as someone whos bought them before and sold them, ill tell u a lil more.

You can get them in any Drug store and even most convience stores depending on where u live. They cost extra money to get. Try not to get American Express they charge the most for one time use cards and they have alot of problems, ive seen complaints online and plenty customers tried to return them when i worked at a UPS counter which sold them.

I have a VIsa one i use now its reloadable and i got it form turbotax, but u can buy them in stores.
They say green dot at teh top of them and u can put as much money as u want on them and its cost 3-5 dollars.
It doesnt cost to use it anywhere, but they do charge to take out money. i go to drugstore and do cash back so i dont get charged, i dont put money on mine cuz i get direct deposit which is free but it cost 5 dollars each time u put money on it. you haveto get another green dot card a reload one though, u go home and sign into your account online (if u made an account already)than put your numberon the card after u click reload somewhere ( your site might be different but its not that hard ot figure out.
Also they charge 5 bucks a month, the one i have waves that fee if u load over $1000 dollars or make 30 purchases, i hardly ever get charged teh five , so it aint that bad for me. I dont know your situation. its the evil thats made me this backstabbing, deceitful, and shady.

Hi ByteMaster, I can confirm the Escape Card works absolutely fine with CCBill just like a normal credit card. I usually use my regular credit card with CCBill as i have faith in them but i just signed up to figurebaby with the Escape card to try it out.

Hi, I was about to create a new thread on the same topic so I figured I would post here with a few questions regarding prepaid cards.

I've been using my cousin's credit card to subscribe to adult paysites for the last two years. It has served me well until my cousin recently decided to cancel it due to high interest rates. Because of that, I had to look at prepaid cards as serious alternatives and after doing some research, I narrowed down to one particular card, NetSpend Visa Prepaid Card which is available at a gas station, close to where I live. Before I take the plunge with this card, however, I need to know whether this card is accepted by some payment processors (see the list below) and I say this because some processors (Verotel for example) do not accept them, even the ones with VISA logo. I contacted the ones (except Verotel of course) in the list and only two (CCBill and DHD Media) responded, confirming that they do accept them. The other two, Epoch and Netbilling, have yet to respond to my query and If any of you had used Epoch or Netbilling that had no trouble processing your prepaid cards, I would appreciate it if you can confirm it.

Payment processors:

CCBIll - yes
Epoch - ???
DHD Media - yes
Verotel - no (see this link as evidence)
Netbilling - ???

I apologize for not responding to your specific question but that's because I have never tried using a prepaid card for porn sites.

But please see my post above.

This technique has worked very well for me and is a great way to track your activity. Just don't make the mistake I made a few months ago where I pulled out that low limit card to buy gas. It caused me to go over limit and I had to waste a lot of time restoring the account so it could handle the auto-renewals.

I recently got a new Bank of America credit card solely in order to use their "SecureCard" service. It is free, once you get a credit card from them and register for "online banking". Its a little hard to find. Under customer support, you can find a link for more info, and there is a button to get to SecureCard. Once there it is easy. You just click to generate a new card number, and you can set the maximum amount that can be charged. The minimum expiration date is two months from the date you make the new number, or you can make it longer. It has a CVV2 number as well. So you can use this one-time Visa number just like any credit card. There is no anonymity: when you make a charge, you still have to give the vendor your real name and address along with the one-time card number.

Epoch's telephone support is marginally helpful with my regular credit card transactions. "Marginal" means they aren't hiring rocket scientists to handle their calls and they give their attendants no training.

Based on the experiences of PU's as expressed in this thread, I am sticking with my preferred method.

I have one card that I use only to enroll in porn sites and I asked the issuer to set a very low ($80) credit limit so that unauthorized large charge transactions will get snagged.

That approach has worked quite well since I started using it 5 years ago, with an average of 2 bogus charge transactions getting snagged.

I do. My local bank issues me a prepaid Mastercard for a small annual fee and I simply transfer money from my checking account to the card as needed. So far all businesses and sites on the net have accepted it without questions.

I like prepaid cash cards, because my wife reviews the bank accounts and postal mail and I'd rather she didn't know about my porn activity. I can purchase the prepaid card with cash and there is no printed or bank record. They do charge extra fees, though.

The last one I used was Vanillavisa. It worked well for a couple of American sites, but it didn't work for European ones. Does anyone know where to get EU prepaid cards in the US using cash in-person?
